Wouldn't have imagined seeing. we even had an african—american president in 2008, so we have made a lot of progress. but the real challenge of reckoning with our history, reckoning with our past, learning from that past so that we actually eliminate bigotry and bias and discrimination, we're really in the early stages of that process. we overcame enslavement, we overcame terrorised lynching and violence, we've overcome to a certain extent legalised racial segregation and hierarchy. we're still dealing with over—incarceration. but this problem of genuinely reckoning with our history, honest...
