India lake that flooded was poised to get early warning system
An early warning system for glacial floods at Lhonak Lake in northeast India failed to prevent deadly consequences when the lake broke its banks this week. The system, which included a camera and weather instruments, was installed last month but was not fully operational. Glacial early warning systems typically give residents only a few minutes to an hour of notice.
