Hundreds of donations for World Book Day '); PUPILS celebrated World Book Day together at home and school via the internet. Children and teachers dressed up as their favourite characters from books and took part in a variety of events from literacy talks to making bookmarks. A book collection took place on the steps of the town hall in Market Place where parents could donate their children’s old stories to be given to local primary schools. Man fined £150 for driving into river ');  '); A MAN who drove a pick-up truck into the River Thames in Henley has been fined and disqualified. Darren Baker struck a lamppost, went through two concrete bollards on the pavement and plunged into the water where his Ford Ranger ended up partially submerged. He was helped out of the vehicle by Richard Schäfer, who was walking along Thames Side by the Hobbs of Henley moorings when the incident happened at 10.26am on January 7. Baker was lifted to safety by Hobbs staff who gave him a change of clothes and a hot drink in their office.

Elara Foxley, three, of Knappe Close in Henley, was given the all-clear after being treated for stage 4 neuroblastoma last summer but the disease has returned and this time it can’t be treated. Her mother Nicky was aiming to raise £241,000 to take her abroad for an experimental therapy and the fund had almost reached the target in less than two weeks when it was halted on Wednesday.

Revamp of historic hotel welcomed by town councillors '); PLANS to refurbish the Red Lion Hotel in Henley have been welcomed by town councillors. Grace Leo bought the property from MG Hotels last year and intends to rebrand it as The Relais, which is French for “coaching inn”.
