While the country marks its first day of the so-called Phuket Sandbox model allowing entries of international travelers, despite some confusion and some clunky process, Thailand on Thursday reported a new record-high of daily coronavirus infections and deaths.
Thailand this morning confirmed 5,533 COVID-19 infections and 57 fatalities, the highest daily number since the pandemic began in January 2020.
The crisis hit a new peak despite the 30-day restrictions imposed on Bangkok and nine other provinces including bans on dining-in, limited travels and shutdown of workers’ camps.

UOB Thailand has donated 2,000 protective coveralls to healthcare workers under UOB Group’s #UnitedForYou COVID-19 Relief Programme as they work tirelessly to save the lives of COVID-19 patients.
The increasing number of infected patients, including healthcare workers, in Thailand’s third wave of COVID-19 has highlighted the critical need for more personal protective equipment to protect those fighting on the frontlines of the public health crisis.
Mr Tan Choon Hin, CEO and President of UOB Thailand, said, “Bangkok has emerged as the epicentre of Thailand’s third wave of coronavirus infections. Our thoughts are with those at the frontlines, notably healthcare personnel, who have demonstrated selflessness in providing life-saving care to others. As part of our #UnitedForYou COVID-19 Relief Programme, we hope to help meet the demand for personal protective equipment and contribute to protecting the lives of people fighting COVID-19.”

There has been a surge in demand for the traditional Thai herb fah talai jone (Andrographis paniculata) since the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic with the herb selling out in several provinces.
This herb has been in the spotlight after a recent study by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine showed that it can cure Covid-19 patients who have mild symptoms and are asymptomatic.
Also known as green chireta, the traditional cold medicine has long been used to cure the flu, sore throat and inflammation in Thailand and Asian countries. Currently, the department has conducted more research by prescribing the medicine to Covid-19 positive people at Thammasat University Field Hospital. The results have yet to be concluded.
