Launching the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the state at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai, Palaniswami told reporters that he too will get vaccinated against Coronavirus and added that the State had received 556,500 doses of vaccines -- 536,500 doses of Covishield and 20,000 doses of Covaxin. Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and others were also present at the hospital.

Senthil, president of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association. Dr C Vijayabaskar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu said that the state health department has made arrangements for vaccination at 166 centres in the first phase. The vaccine shall be administered to healthcare workers in the first phase. Ten doctors, who are pioneers in Tamil Nadu shall be administered the vaccine to avoid anxiety among the public. The vaccine was tested for immunogenesis and safety and has passed all the trials.

According to Rajan, the drill included arrival of persons for vaccination, their seating in waiting hall, and checking of their details by officials concerned. ‘COVID-19 vaccination in India: Chennai hospital has conducted COVID-19 vaccination drill.’ They were then moved to another room, where their identities were cross-checked and details uploaded on Co-WIN app. Thereafter, the persons were vaccinated and information uploaded.
