Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson will look at exporting telecom gears from India in future, a senior company official said on Wednesday. Ericsson, Head of Network Solutions Strategic Network Evolution Market Area South East Asia, Oceania and India, Ng Thiaw Seng said that, at present, the entire production of its India plant is getting consumed locally due to very high demand.
Ericsson expects significant use cases for 5G in India to drive densification of telecom networks, facilitated by network slicing capability, actively engaging with academia and partners.
Ericsson plans to consider exporting telecom gear from India as local demand for 5G equipment remains high. The company is engaging with partners to develop 5G use cases and expects significant growth in India's 5G adoption within the next 12-24 months.
Ericsson: Open RAN, being touted as a big bet against the traditional deployment of mobile networks, has tasted success in markets including Japan. It could significantly reduce a telecom player’s network deployment costs as it is interoperable with other networks such as 4G.
Ericsson 5G: “FWA is a very good use case in India. India has less than 10% of home broadband penetration. These are the low-hanging fruits, but there are more use cases on top of this other than eMBB and FWA like in the medical healthcare segment,” Seng said.
