Missouri Valley College senior Jesse Pope, of Waverly, Kansas, capped his first-ever appearance at the National Finals Rodeo in Arlington, Texas, Saturday with a second-place finish in the 10th and final go-round. Riding “Uncapped”, Pope scored an 89.5, which was good enough for him to capture to average title with an 853 in the 10 rounds, three points ahead of Kaycee Feild. Missouri Valley College Rodeo head coach Ken Mason had good reason to be ecstatic Thursday night. According to Prorodeo.com, three Valley cowboys finished 1-2-3 in the eighth round of the bareback-riding competition at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo taking place in Arlington, Texas. Tim O’Connell slipped back a bit in the overall average at the National Finals Rodeo in Arlington, Texas. According to Prorodeo.com, in Round 7, O’Connell, a three-time world champion, scored a 77 aboard “Network Gazer”. That was good enough for a tie for 10th in the bareback riding event. The round was won by Orin Larsen, who scored a 90 on “Yippee Kibitz”.
