“In South Dakota, an overwhelming majority don't feel it is necessary or appropriate for minors to have gender-altering, permanent surgeries taking place,” Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree said.
Senate Republicans are advancing a bill that prohibits doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and cross sex hormones to transgender kids. Republican lawmakers are focused on prohibiting certain surgeries on adolescents.
