The Office for National Statistics, which quizzed nearly 30,000 Britons on their lifestyle, found that just three in 10 rated their happiness as 'very high' in the first three months of the year.
The Office for National Statistics estimated that 10 per cent of adults in the UK were depressed before the virus first struck. This doubled to 21 in 2021 but has come down to 17 per cent since July.
Despite coronavirus restrictions easing on July 19, 32 per cent of women aged 16 to 29 and a fifth of men of the same age reported symptoms of depression between July 21 and August 15.
