Winston House Opens as an Upscale Supper Club With Live Music in Venice Beach

The team behind Waterfront is opening an intimate supper club to Venice Beach called Winston House starting tomorrow evening, July 29, with owners Corey McGuire and Jake Matthews bringing in Andy Vaughn (Soho House Malibu and Buddakan NYC) to help manage the upscale restaurant and live music venue. McGuire will curate guests and has worked with the likes of Billie Eilish, A$AP Ferg, Janelle Monaé, and Justin Bieber in the past. The executive chef is Jared Dowling, who previously designed menus at Habitas resorts, and was the executive chef of Fat Radish in New York City, a popular British restaurant that focused on vegetables and only closed last year after a decade-long run.

Defender Tom Eastman has joined Colchester United on a two-year deal having turned down a six-month contract with the Blues. Eastman, 19, will be reunited with his former Town academy coaches Tony Humes and Richard Hall at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The centre-half joins the U’s on a free transfer as the Blues’ offer didn’t match the terms of his previous one-year deal.
Eastman says he's delighted to be joining his hometown side: "This is a great move for me and I'm joining a big club in this division.
"I was born in Colchester and have lived in Clacton all of my life, so it's great to be playing for my local club.

Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf fell short in his bid to make the Olympic trials Sunday, when he ran an impressive 10.36 100-meter dash that placed 15 out of 17 competitors at the USA Track and Field Golden Games.
Metcalf's showing was roundly praised on social media, a football star with limited track background running with some of the top sprinters in the world. And it reminded me of a conversation I had earlier this spring with Calvin Johnson's former trainer, who remains convinced the ex-Detroit Lions receiver could have qualified for the Olympics.
"His running style, if he actually ran track, he would be competitive with Usain Bolt," said Tom Bender, the longtime private trainer and founder of Bender Performance. "He had world-class speed."

FREDRICK JOSEPH FROM FOREST, PA: Back in the 1960s my brothers and I were just growing up in Pennsylvania. Our family didn't have much, and we boys had to work for my Dad's home business to make ends meet. We even worked on Sundays. We seldom got to watch a game on TV. We did have a radio and would listen to the games while working in the garage. The announcers had a way of broadcasting the game that made it seem like we were there in the stands. The Steelers won very few games each season, but we were always hopeful of a miracle from Dick Hoak, Gary Ballman, or Roy Jefferson. Who were the radio announcers back then?

DELHI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (FOX19) - The residents of Delhi Township on Cincinnati’s West Side are no strangers to the sound of planes flying overhead, but some say it’s gotten much worse since the airport just across the river shut down its longest runway.
CVG, which is experiencing explosive growth in cargo shipments thanks to its Amazon and DHL hubs, recently closed runway 927 for rehabilitation. The runway usually services large cargo planes.

Dick Kernen, guru to Detroit radio and TV stars, dies at 82

Dick Kernen, a giant of Michigan broadcasting who boosted the careers of countless familiar on-air voices and faces, died of natural causes Friday at home in Dearborn, his family confirmed. He was 82.
Kernen, who started with WXYZ-AM in the '50s and helped form WRIF-FM in the '70s, was vice president of industry relations at the Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield, where he had worked since 1972.
A 2003 Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductee, Kernen was a guiding hand — both inside and outside Specs Howard — to some of the best-known names on the local airwaves in recent decades, having worked closely with the likes of Arthur Penhallow, Glenda Lewis, Carmen Harlan, Charlie Langton, Amy Andrews, Joe Wade Formicola and more.
