The search is on for individuals and groups from the Hunstanton area who have gone the extra mile for their community during the last unprecedented year.
Launched by the town's mayor, Tony Bishopp, the 2021 Mayor's Community Awards will acknowledge outstanding contribution and commitment and recognise those who have worked selflessly for their fellow residents.
He said: “It is important that as a council we publicly recognise the valuable work of volunteers, paid workers and community-based organisations across our communities who have worked selflessly throughout the past year, especially more so since the Covid pandemic began, in assisting residents of Hunstanton”.

'Idiots' claim made in new Hunstanton bus shelter debate

'Idiots' claim made in new Hunstanton bus shelter debate
 | Updated: 08:46, 04 February 2021
West Norfolk Council officials have been accused of treating community representatives in Hunstanton like “idiots” in the debate over who should maintain new bus shelters in the town.
A borough proposal for Hunstanton’s town council to take ownership of the new shelters was backed at a special meeting last night.

But further discussions are set to be sought on the detail of the deal after some members claimed the borough’s proposal to provide a one-off £15,000 payment towards maintenance costs was insufficient.
Although bus stops are meant to be maintained at the lowest level of local government, meaning the town council would be responsible, critics view this proposal as a replacement bus station, which would make the borough liable instead.

'Progress, but no guarantees', says Hunstanton Town Council over car park flats proposal

'Progress, but no guarantees', says Hunstanton Town Council over car park flats proposal
Published: 07:00, 04 February 2021
Community leaders in Hunstanton have welcomed moves to address concerns over a contentious housing scheme – but warned they can’t guarantee backing it when revised plans are submitted.
Proposals by West Norfolk Council to build more than 30 flats on part of the Southend Road car park were rejected by its own planning committee in December.
And one of the key sticking points was the anticipated loss of 100 public car parking spaces from the site to make way for the development.
Reduced capacity in Hunstanton's Southend Road car park is a key concern relating to a proposed apartment development.

 | Updated: 08:26, 28 January 2021
Hunstanton’s town clerk narrowly escaped injury after part of the town hall’s ceiling fell down, a meeting has heard.
Town councillors were informed of the incident during a virtual meeting last night, when planned discussions on other issues relating to the building were halted.
Mayor Tony Bishopp said no-one had been hurt in the incident, but added: “It’s something we need to look at urgently.

“Ten seconds earlier, it would have fallen on the clerk’s (Jan Roomes’) head.
“We’re going to get prices to have a full survey of the town hall.”
