The eight bells at St Gregory's Church in Sudbury have left the Bell Tower for the first time in over 100 years to be cleaned and retuned.

THE glorious sound of Winchester Cathedral bells have been heard in their full glory. Having been restricted from ringing, either at all during Lockdowns or, due to continuing Covid-19 regulations, on no more than six of their smaller bells, the Cathedral band met on Sunday morning and awakened Winchester to the sound of their heaviest bells pealing out for the first time since early March 2020. A VETERAN bell-ringer has retired as tower captain at the age of 88. Ian Taylor had been in the role at Ulverston’s St. Mary’s Parish Church for fifty years but has now officially retired. A serious motorcycle accident many years ago, when he lost his right leg, kept him from the tower for a while until he was able to negotiate the forty-three steps of the very narrow spiral staircase leading up to the ringing chamber.
