Those three data points will tell us what we re dealing with. dakota, it is harris faulkner. i want to give credit where credit is due. this is coming from one of my followers on twitter, jamie garner. he asked can you ask for me, harris, if there s a black box type thing to give us knowledge like on a plane? would a submersible have that? depends on the company. a lot of reporting about this particular company, no emergency transponder. they were running a fairly inexpensive operation by using a lot of off the shelf capabilities. all the reporting so far does not indicate there s any transponder or black box component as you would find on other vessels of the same type. but dakota, you can buy other things, like i don t ....

Is normal or not. but normal practice? i can t say if it is normal or not. but it - normal practice? i can t say if it| is normal or not. but it certainly would be unusual. to me, and i ve said it many times, they should have been some sort of a transponder that would have emergency sent out a signal continuously for at least 100 hours to say here i am. just a beacon that our military, coastguard, even some of the fishing vessels would have been able to make contact with, and said, we are receiving a signal, here is where the general area is. something closer to a mile by a mile, not 700 miles by 700 miles. we closer to a mile by a mile, not 700 miles by 700 miles. closer to a mile by a mile, not 700 miles by 700 miles. we have heard from the coastguard miles by 700 miles. we have heard from the coastguard that miles by 700 miles. we have heard from the coastguard that the - miles by 700 miles. we have heard| from the coastguard that the search area is now twice the size of conn ....

Move in such a wide area? tt2 coastguard would have been doing immediately upon arrival, they would have looked at the weather conditions, at least 2a hours prior to the submersible entering the water. they would have been looking at the weather conditions and currents. the submersible never made it to the bottom, and became semi disabled at 10,000 feet, it is now subject to the travelling water. with that process, they are looking at the speed of the current, the tide that has been lost, and they would say ok, it could have travelled ten miles. it could have rivalled 400 miles. it could have travelled. if you were looking at a current of one not, that would tell you that the night it was travelling 100 foot every minute. if the current is at six to eight knots, it is moving at 600 to 800 foot every minute. the coastguard will have already figured out, by putting in their own transponder, tracker boys, ....

Transponder, something that would send a signal to alert its position or is it passive, you have to find it yourself? i don t know. there s communications very often. but as it s been pointed out, at this depth over this difference, it s very, very difficult to deal with. one way of thinking about it that is really important, think of the deep ocean as you would space but worse. i mean, arguably there have been fewer people to the deep ocean than have been to space because the deep ocean is a very, very forbidding environment where everything, communications, air, water, rescue, all of that is difficult, extremely difficult. so that s what they re facing now. the bottom of the ocean is less explored than outer space. tom foreman, something we ll continue to follow. the u.s. coast guard just tweeted contact with the vessel was lost about one hour and 45 minutes into its dive. we continue to dig in on this. ....
