"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very sensitive towards the workers trapped in Silkyara, Uttarkashi Tunnel. Prime Minister is taking detailed information every day about the well-being of the workers and the ongoing relief and rescue operations in the tunnel. Central agencies, state administration and teams of international experts are working on all options, we will soon be successful in evacuating the labor brothers safely," CM Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on X.
Amid persistent challenges hampering the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation, residents from nearby villages are turning to prayers in a collective plea to the local deity, Baba Boukhnag, for the swift release of the 41 workers who have been trapped inside for the past 13 days. Speaking to PTI, numerous locals revealed that they engage in daily prayers, seeking the wellbeing and safe rescue of the workers caught in the tunnel.
At present, the communication between the trapped workers and their relatives is facilitated by a communication system set up through a six-inch wide pipe. An endoscopic camera was also pushed through this pipe, allowing rescue workers and relatives of the trapped men to see the condition inside. Drilling at the collapsed portion of the tunnel has been halted since Friday as the the auger machine faced hurdles one after another. A tunnelling expert at the site said on Saturday the machine was broken.
