A live look at a gathering near the bp gas station on sherman and burleigh. It was just one of the casualties of last nights violence sparked by an officer involved shooting. Well have more from there in a moment but first a break down of just some what happened last night. 4 officers were hurt. All have arrested. They all had prior criminal records. Right now 150 Police Officers trained in crowd control are on duty so are 100 Milwaukee County sheriffs deputies. There are also 125 National Guard members theyre in place to help tonight if needed. T we start first wit milwaukee, it was all sparked saturday after a Police Officer shot and killed an armed suspect when he ran away during a traffic stop. Police say that 23yearold Sylville Smith was shot twice once in the a, he died on scene. The officer is on administrative duty while the Wisconsin Department of justice investigates the shooting. But it was a different scene last night. A group of people were gathered in the streets near sherman and burleigh. Officers were in riot gear and lined the streets to keep things under control. Just before 11 last night people in the crowd began throwing rocks and other one shooting victim was rushed to the
Working through the night trying to disperse the crowds. And this all started on saturday. After a milwaukee officer shot and killed 23 yearold sylville smith. Smith ran from the officers during a traffic stop. He was shot twice. And died at the scene near 44th and auer. His death has sparked two days of violent clashes with police on the citys northside. Including businesses being lit on fire. And windows smashed near sherman park. Governor scott walker has activated the National Guard but they have not been deployed in the c morning on the unrest in the city.
