There are contamination fears after sports fields in an "overdeveloped" town were flooded with sewage four times in as many months.
Penallta RFC are opposing Caerphilly council's plans to uproot the club and move it across Ystrad Mynach to make room for a major school redevelopment.
The club said it was "massively concerned" after a sewer at proposed replacement fields overflowed.
The council said "appropriate works" would be carried out at the site.
Caerphilly council has been consulting on plans to expand Trinity Fields School in Ystrad Mynach, which would see 450-member Penallta RFC lose its main pitch and the town lose yet another sports field.

Caerphilly Council sets out plans for £231m in investments

Further proposed investments, which are still awaiting approval, have also been outlined.
These include a potential £36 million redevelopment of the Caerphilly basin area with a combination of education, leisure, housing and employment use being considered.
A £35 million investment in the Upper Rhymney Valley is also proposed and £12.7 million has been earmarked for the Trinity Fields School expansion in Ystrad Mynach.
Other proposed investments include £17 million on projects in the council’s decarbonisation strategy, £35 million on a new build housing investment programme and secondary school investment of £20 million.
A council report says the proposals provide ” an essential route-map for our communities to build a resilient and sustainable future as they emerge from the Covid pandemic”.

Plans to expand two schools in Caerphilly borough move forward

The plan to expand Trinity Fields School to provide an additional 80 pupil places has prompted some concern over the loss of a council-owned playing field next to the school, which is regularly used by Penallta Rugby Club.
But to mitigate the loss, Caerphilly council has unveiled plans to deliver an improved pitch at Sue Noakes Leisure Centre with spectator areas, barriers and enhanced lighting, and to create a second, full-sized pitch to provide additional capacity for local sports clubs.
At a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, deputy leader Cllr Sean Morgan said the benefits of the scheme in helping to meet growing demand at Trinity Fields School outweighed concerns over the loss of the playing field.
