Don’t let money be the deciding factor in the decision of liberty and sound academics in education for our kids. There is such a huge difference in the candidates for school trustee in Zone 3.
Anxiety about which trustees will control the West Bonner school board continues to swirl through the surrounding towns and backroads of this remote Idaho Panhandle district. For seven months, division and mistrust on the five-person board and with the community have been commonplace. Parents and patrons vocally disagreed and challenged board decisions throughout the summer.
When West Bonner met in an abbreviated meeting in late September, community members hoped the board would discuss — and approve — a social media policy. That didn't happen after trustee Troy Reinbold, who skipped the board's regular meeting, only agreed to attend if a pair of executive sessions were dropped and only items critical to district operation were addressed, such as paying its bills and formally declaring two seats impacted by a recall as being open.
Six candidates are vying for three spots. Events are planned throughout the month in churches, community centers and local restaurants.
