manipur: Two North Eastern states – Manipur and Mizoram – have divergent views on Myanmar refugees
The governments of Mizoram and Manipur, two northeastern Indian states, have taken opposite stances on allowing refugees from Myanmar into their respective states. Mizoram has been accommodating around 35,000 refugees, mostly belonging to the Chin community who share ancestry, ethnicity, and culture with the Mizos of the state. In contrast, Manipur has been pushing back refugees and has sought a detailed report from the Assam Rifles Authority clarifying why and how 718 Myanmar nationals were allowed to enter Chandel district without proper travel documents.
