The study was based on contact tracing data from thousands of households in Wuhan, China.
The findings, which appear in Lancet Infectious Diseases, emphasize the need to conduct COVID-19 vaccine safety and efficacy studies in children, said Dr. Yang Yang, one of the study’s senior authors and an associate professor of biostatistics in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions and the UF College of Medicine, part of UF Health.

National study refines proportion of illness due to microbes in food, water
Jan. 5, 2021: UF researchers led a comprehensive study estimating the proportion of food- and waterborne diseases in the US attributable to five major transmission pathways.
Not everyone who falls ill from contaminated food seeks medical care, and even those who do may not receive lab tests to pinpoint the pathogenic agent, or even have a doctor who knows how to report the illness if it is identified.
