Head of Falls Village would include two five-story buildings with a total of 63 housing units at the corner of Temple and Front streets downtown.
Councilors met Tuesday to OK the ordinance, which officials say is necessary to ensure rental properties are safe for tenants, and also signed off on a $200,000 grant for the demolition of buildings at the intersection of Front and Temple streets downtown.
The board is expected Tuesday to hear preliminary plans for Head of Falls Village, which would include more than 60 apartments.
Councilors are scheduled to hold a public hearing Tuesday on funding earmarked for the project planned for the intersection of Temple and Front streets.
As part of the plan, buildings at the corner of Temple and Front streets, as well as a former office building at the corner of Appleton and Front, would be razed and two buildings initially constructed in their place.
