Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped by 24,000 to a seasonally adjusted 209,000 for the week ended Nov. 18, the Labor Department said on November 22, the lowest level in more than a month. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 226,000 claims for the latest week.

The dollar has stumbled as recent data has showed a slowing of the economy and inflation pressures, including the consumer price index (CPI) data, but not enough to increase fears a sharp recession is looming, leading markets to price out any additional Fed rate hikes.
