Cyclone Michaung has already disrupted normal life in Tamil Nadu, particularly impacting Chennai. The state capital witnessed heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogging of subways and arterial roads. Operations at Chennai airport were temporarily suspended, with 70 flights canceled due to continuous rains.
"Cyclone Michaung is expected to bring very heavy rainfall and strong winds to the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, beginning Sunday afternoon, December 3, and continuing through December 4. Consequently, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai will be closed on Monday, December 4," the US Consulate said in a statement.

The pilot will address around 20,000 work visa renewals, or almost a tenth of the estimated 583,420 H1-B visa holders. The programme, which was proposed in February and formally announced in September during prime minister Narendra Modis US visit, will commence in December.
"We are really proud of what we have done in India this year. I think for the first time in history, we set a goal to issue one million visas in India and not only did we accomplish that, but it was done several months in advance. So, the number will go way beyond that," said ulie Stufft, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Visa Services.
