On Friday, the Madras High Court dismissed all appeals and upheld a sessions court order that found 215 people, mostly from the police and forest departments, guilty of the atrocities, including rape of 18 women, during a raid in Vachathi.
On June 20, 1992, 155 forest department personnel, 108 policemen and six revenue officials raped 18 women in Vachathi, assaulted men, and looted and destroyed the village.
The Court also directed the State government to pay ₹10 lakh compensation to 18 women who were raped by the State officials back in 1992.
