Shell chief executive officer Ben van Beurden will step down at the end of this year after almost 40 years at the company.
Ben van Beurden will be replaced by Wael Sawan, director of the group's integrated gas and renewables division, at the start of next year.
Van Beurden 'has been in the vanguard for the transition of Shell to a net-zero emissions energy business.'
Current chief executive Ben van Beurden will leave at the end of 2022 after nine years at the helm.
