Service to all Verizon customers was restored Tuesday afternoon after an excavation crew accidentally cut fiber optic cables for cell sites Monday night, causing widespread service outages in Hampton Roads, according to a company spokesperson.
The Verizon outages in Erie are due to a fiber cut. A spokesperson for the company said Verizon is unsure when services will be fully restored.
Verizon Wireless recently announced that it would invest an additional $149 million to upgrade its cell towers and connections in Florida. That investment is on top of $1 billion the company previously announced it was spending to expand its network in the state.
