Walmart has filed for trademarks for a number of products related to the metaverse. This could be huge.

Larry Cheng, managing partner at Volition Capital, argued that there is “a bit of a gold rush mentality to NFTs as the fiber and the texture of the metaverse” as he described the space, which is garnering increased interest from traditional companies, including Walmart.

Walmart Inc. is preparing to create its own cryptocurrency and collection of non-fungible tokens, filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office show, setting the stage for meeting its customers in the emerging metaverse.

Retail giant Walmart has filed several trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in late December for operations related to the metaverse, cryptocurrency and NFTs and although the company is mum on the recent filing, there could be a lot of excitement brewing for crypto enthusiasts.

Facebook isn't the only corporate behemoth wading into the metaverse . Now, Walmart appears to be dipping its toes in, filing multiple new trademarks at the end of last year...
