Delhi Police sets up green corridor for tankers carrying oxygen to hospital


Delhi Police on Tuesday said that it had set up a green corridor for the movement of oxygen containers from source to a hospital treating COVID-19 infection.
According to an official statement of the police, a dedicated corridor for clear passage (green corridor) of the oxygen containers was set up by Outer District police for two oxygen tankers from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana borders to Delhi's Action Balaji hospital with an escort of the police.
"A distress call was received at about 11.42 PM in the night of April 19 in PS Paschim Vihar East that Action Balaji Hospital has reached a critically low level of oxygen stock and lives of over 235 Covid patients is at risk," the statement said adding that the hospital authorities informed that one tanker carrying 14,000 litres of oxygen is stuck at the DND flyover Noida while another tanker carrying 5,500 litres of oxygen is also stuck on the Delhi-Faridabad border.

Delhi recorded its highest spike in infections as well as deaths on Tuesday with 28,395 new cases and 277 fresh deaths due to Covid-19 reported in the past 24 hours. The positivity was recorded at 32.8%, meaning every third sample tested was positive. Delhi Police said that a raid on premises running in the name of Crossroad at A-2 Citizen Tower Commercial Complex, in the area of PS Paschim Vihar East was conducted and 20 people including 6 women were arrested. Police stated that all of the accused have been booked for violating COVID-19 guidelines.
The police said that 5 hookahs have been seized and the owner of the hookah bar has also been booked under relevant provisions in Epidemic Act and 33 Excise Act.
Delhi has 12,647 active COVID-19 cases that include 653 cases reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of fatalities in the national capital has reached 11,060 with 10 deaths on Saturday. (ANI)
