On the field 1st off it was mostly off the city they took I took a liking to Maidstone very early on 3 minutes on the clock the following The had a midway through the off great private tween Ben Jeffords that McCracken McCarron setting Kevin but how or why his go down after it was deflected behind for a corner and 10 minutes for the right Josh 3 saw a free kick from the edge of the box checked by Mason keeper Chris Livingston but in the 2nd half he really was mostly nice and United 15 minutes on the clock city lucky not to be reduced to 10 men a reckless travels by Joe Armstrong the edge of the box it was our yellow card only I m the resulting free kick from now much as mine was saved by Max Harris Mason then went in front just before the hour and the only brought point to city in the 2nd half was in the 71st minute a free kick from ash 3 from 20 yards forcing a good safe from into but that was the only chance of the half a city and it s finished my stunning I said one Oxford City mail thank you let s hear about subtracting a day game against guys Lee Tim Carroll. Just don t hear after 70 so I think the small time. In a very hard. Life is. An attractive one for yellow cards and a great card system. This is really. We ve had some late drama here and I have lost my conversion 2827. The 2nd often shot by. The catcher and the last play. In the corner I m a hell it is now on the touchline. Oxford sport your tweets we re with you through until 6 o clock tonight getting reaction to Oxford United No no draw here Premier League James s Park new. Castle and it can be a different feel at the cast out in 10 days time for the replay draw Monday that Oxford United will be in and Rosie is not going to be one of those where you think we want to be we probably won t be playing in that box but players will believe they can win them possibly should win the replay on it because they come back to I mean they would atmosphere the atmosphere just incredible here. But also be more charges or fewer people but more charge Yeah cos you know we ll sell out not them so you know keep it on an order ticket offer Office and everything else but it s going to be going to sell out it s going to be great it s going to have this is going to be good and the prize Yeah all depends what happens between now and then obviously we ve got a couple league eyes however for me you might you know charge then you go in and posted a quick they re lively but you know going back to the stadium it s going to be. Going on that s fair and he s the thing now isn t it a question of Newcastle with a bit complacent about Oxford coming to town Oxford have to not think I won we did alright Newcastle is nothing to worry about they ve got to treat them with the same respect they did at 3 o clock today 100 percent you ve got to make sure of a secret at a place with them on and everybody else and. Just do your job which you did today but take your chances. You know so it s. Scum been interested in an interest in NY I m sure worth pointing out since that record in the Northeast remains pretty good. It s going to do the same. Now and the other thing of course to point out Rosie is that it was a big crowd today and the ultimate record button but actually a clubby story telling us something like the 20 biggest crowd Oxford have ever played in front of all the games let s. Go out the window as well actually. I don t know how long it is but it s been call since the final whistle in it I think one of the last the last to take in a big intake of breath but down the stairs. It is more part of my mom my friends are gone off. People are asking me already about the game at home but we re going to choose your ways if we haven t decided well he s probably going to be down to t.v. Companies to decide you know I would think it was almost certain to be a t.v. Game and more money for the cars Yeah a maybe that gives Cole Robinson something to enjoy in the transfer window the final week of which is right now he s the one and. We just want to make. A fantastic. Member for a long time to find the same 4000 wonderful supporters. Dedication attention to detail. Efforts team spirit. And I say we were the scene that went full sentence Hey today so hopefully we can bring some players over the next few weeks and make ourselves even more competitive in the. I don t mean great chance like Tony it s a couple it s got it all yeah except for goals from from our point of view we felt that we thought we knew when we know when the constable could ever see the quality of the 4th or we have to make good on a day. When he will call. You always on the edge you see it was never a dull moment in. The very end we all thought that was the picture and we yeah. Nathan show you because he s got many folks inside and also a lot better players than being at the races that I talked to Rican Browny at stages and I m probably than I don t want better players actually perform I think the sum is still more to come and that s the pleasing thing in hopefully now we can take stock of well bore me on Monday and try bring us from our players about. You d like to think I ll be on t.v. . The replay is a big one another big one of. Their fans are and it will be viewed very well and we hope we hope that I ll get a bit more of a windfall. Of the full House. It s not see by the say 3 Premier League teams. We get beat by the champions of England then we we are probably the better team that day 2nd half and I we just held new caps at St James Park it s not bad did you think. Of the challenge in the 1st half. I listened. To get involved and I think it s I thought it was good at the time I m not seeing a black boy like you say. In the emotion of the game to clinical in the sound of what went on. My my my overriding thought disappointment today is that I felt we. Thought they were a little more physical initial seem to get away with it a little bit but the math is to show you and when you have these better referees it is nothing to be differences and it really does and I was her experience of go. Where we were I have to check here that the patentee decision it was always a strange I ve never experienced before as affairs for my career in the clubs and the club s history as well. And just how proud of you as you say. I m proud of our football club. I don t know it s a better way to round off because it s not just it s not about me it s nothing to do with me I m just a very small cog within this football club as the players hit the pitch is the stuff we wear around the clock to make this the right is the board as ability to pull what we re trying to achieve as the fans and. Everybody s connected with Ai and hopefully we can go on to a good season now it s a preseason game. Next week and you mention come Monday. And to the right no not right now no. Anything but if they don t they will sit down and evaluate what s coming for all players and if anything does come before you look. At all show she where we are financially because I say this is this might just change one or 2 things dissipate in the book doesn t it go for a week or so you know you get a big payoff from this are presumably. It s just because we have that except the price in our is we would much rather our team player. Than only might have to pay a little bit more money I think is brilliant by everybody by Newcastle United on Oxford United this place was full. Of division one team it just shows that this this is. The way as a country still love football teams have to take a lead in the plain strong teams and. Bringing. In young people in the next generation of football fans. And hopefully they ll make their way safely. But not many with the one of more. Fun and you come out there as well as in the. Way I Do I think I said this on your show last night that my face real football memory was. Read tinsel in the window with a tin foil f.a. Cup. Over there or whatever and $86.00 of them a little in the. It was the fish I fish real memory of football so I owe a lot because it helped me. I was looking at them then in the eighty s as pull one of the seams in the land do you treat this competition as if it was it was so important so it should not go where there s a kid a poor little uncertain even today it s a special moment be part of the conversation and you can replay a busy month now if every for your vision it was to prove yet it was a thing of if you are compasses or be happy with the result of a bullish in whatever the season happened we if we if we don t get help for whatever reason we re goal not been defeated we can go back in the season say we push the only way we got to the quarter finals of the kind of market Be My them maybe phone a lot we ve come in and perform on the flu our We ve had some great days on the road 6 knows if we filled the Kasam out for today and we ve 4 times now I don t think any of us could the sats in the summer in vision that we have a quite unique year. So if you know modern time you take care thank you call Robinson there with no brave performance from some of these players magnificent performers from the next you know new fans here today as well we ll hear from them as they leave the ground and we will hear from you 109100 is our number let s hear from Pull pull Good evening t. Had the I was happy a. Larger I am but just going to say for every fan in the stadium showed the Newcastle fans how to support your team the single most constant I get there was whatever the chant Where s your fight with that list there are so true. To be so I know by out that part of us are just reflecting on the day when. We could have won it we should have won it for Sue Browns chances. Are the going to go in I forsook the dance with the ball and then. They were there I mean the pregnant. Yes. To send a strike. My only. Concern but my me thought is that when he was on the team sheet at the beginning you kind of knew that there was going to be a lack of right up front. That s the way it turned out. We got brown 12 hostages but. At the time for me. I don t know I mean so I d cite but again you know here we claim today with the study we can take Remember you ve got trying to get Henry and Taylor to come back yeah right well potentially what it sounds like right back I strike a coming in next week maybe not back you know you could have potentially 5 or 6 yeah you re absolutely right and I think. The flip side of that is if somebody goes to that defensive display today although. Some of the times they were able to boast the midfield comes to a lot of money for the players and then the available for the reply. But it s just just the one however good we ve got some fantastic players but one player doesn t make it doesn t make the team and I m sure whoever steps you know everybody you know we ve got. A step apply if you read the Darby for you know it was seen as the Wonder play when they caught him and they really really do praise him. For the rest of the season potentially longer. Taylor coming back the other players coming back. So we need costs like we quite. Still respect them and give him the same respect they did in 3 o clock today because. I don t think Newcastle will collapse but if you like they did at the start of the game. No I fully agree of course you have to respect whichever team you can if we were playing at a lower league team then we give them the full respect they deserve but I just feel that with the league the importance of the league to Newcastle and the money they ve got what they would they play a slightly stronger side when we play them again do they think what was on the field today will be enough to beat us with a few. Changes which you know what I tell you I don t think Steve Bruce has got a lot more to throw you know id to be honest with those virtues stories he coulda gone yeah yeah I agree and we didn t want Sibylla t. To 50 or 48000 Newcastle fans that he won t have for the replay the key Sam. Reports. Linking Saudi investment the huge carried buyout that actually you know is actually playing in the back of their minds. One of the main stories that. They ve been talking about a lot in the media up here with I mean there s no reason. Much at the moment we. Ever take that threat with a few additions to the team slightly stronger squad than we could we could we can beat them move on. What s safe journey home poor Frank you very much indeed 109100 Newcastle by the way play Norwich next week that would be a massive game for them to almost seal safety you would think but then pretend you played Oxford 3 days late and you call that game but I m to Blackpool next Saturday in League One Before we move on final thought from you but was a mascot you had to squeeze them when. They were if you were you know if you didn t take anybody else s place which is good yeah it was a bit nervous he said to me on the way we said how many crowd that know that pretty 2000 and he said if you try to find that and I said my biggest guy was 48 and he went up top here. And we lost as well by the way. You know final thoughts I just thought that the passion and desire for more to do you know it was great in the crowd so I felt that as well as a Kaffir said it s a massive massive night for you tonight it. In general So yeah everyone has a safe journey home looking forward to next Saturday now that stuff than what most important going to get behind the united in League One as well as in the f.a. Cup and this will carry 18 to the 2 week winter break the New Castle had that s become a 10 day winter break after the Oxford game the following weekend is their weekend off do you buy or Oxford thank you chose for the life yeah very much so it s difficult and you know I could it s fantastic they hopefully will have a some of those players back fit. If you think about the Blackpool game and you think about it Peterborough on the Saturday after which absolutely crucial league games and Newcastle going someplace between the 2 will or will it be a. United vice chairman Zacky news a by midnight it was lucky when you were on the farm for this we re looking forward to the softening but what an occasion for the football club I know it s really amazing and so much so that I was hoping we could win at the end. Replays is nice now because as to a busy schedule when Marcus Brown went through you must have been thinking this is it Marcus Brown and to record and so yeah frustrating not to get a win but a great great result and we ll take it home and we really have a big chance to to win at home and I have also you know it is making big waves in the football are you certain you making friends and where you go you make good relationships with clubs from the top level which any benefit discipline going forward of course for creating a name for ourselves I think there s a certain work ethic there s a certain culture we re trying to apply and we re getting our brand out there and people are starting to notice what we re doing and hopefully it will continue and manage you talked about the decision from the club to allow the the ticket prices to be reduced today you could have gone to an actual game but you got more to come and see a cheaper price never win benefits absolutely it s always a balance money is important in lower leagues when you don t have the t.v. Money but you ve got to think about what fans want and here we go we ve got a great result and you know we ll have a good home at home which will which will get us some revenues so it s all good probably fill the stadium again another 4 times a season which almost unheard of but as you know if you were honest dissolve proud of the squad you know we ve done it against West Ham with a foreigner thrashing but if I may say and then we ve really played very well against City and now here s a 3rd league team where we really don t ourselves proud so we re going to be more proud of the squad and Carl and the whole team so it s really a great time to be in Oxford United fan and we become fans ourselves and that s really important because he become passionate and and it s more it s not just a business it s a real passion out of you from Tiger since the game finished Yeah there s a lot of text from Tiger and other board members and. Each one in different place showing pictures and whatever else so yeah everyone s excited and I guess calorie texting Tigers one on the bottom is now saying you know and next week transfer window any cash going it s it s a continuous discussion that never ends it starts on a Monday and it never finishes by Sunday evening so. We speak to call regularly and hopefully we ll do what s what s what s needed and just when you surprise is put you know had more people on your phone in the clubs phone or asking about your plans because we re going to be some money big bits coming in. We re going to do it is not finished yet and there will be I m sure phone calls next week and really have to do what s right for the club and what s right for the player and what s right for our objectives our objectives are to get promotion and we will keep that in mind so we ll see how it goes but wonderful day I think is likely Thanks a lot Nathan thanks a lot Nick executives are by there speaking with Nathan this pick up on the transport side of things I mean where the club meets right now yeah it s going to take special bids to take some of the players away but he s going to take special clubs to make some of these Oxford United players want to go yes. On both counts but United have been slightly lucky that the replies were talking about what a margin be Baptist Yahoo did plighted a the other 2 brown are going. To keep right today but yeah it s a difficult situation to attract certainly lone playas to want to come when they see the sort of result we know it does because. So he could go prepared in the for no defeat didn t eat for Western aid in the. Manchester City will be in defeat so that s something to think about as well isn t it at the the spirit of of the club there just at the moment. There s a lot to like about and the other thing about The Man City game again in defeat. How to kick on a little bit West Ham game did the same and you think you know after we see the end of January and Oxford won t have taken a victory in the league all month and their only witness being against the pole yet you kind of feel that the team is going to be energized by what happened here today yeah you can look at it 2 ways but I think if you look back to the 2 guys you ve mentioned it and. Gys united the the right way so people would say all they re going to be more that in big games and they are in the league I didn t call Robinson would let that happen ended players hopefully are going to come back it s a matter of months it was a massive month anyway February for oxygen Ike It has just become a lot more massive with this reply and then because we got the draw on Monday just like to it s this little nerve the cup is. Expected to be watching the television watching for that draw water into the number to come out and the United will draw details on that number 40 Newcastle United or Oxford United in a draw on Monday evening the reply penciled in for Tuesday week old Stephanie will take it penciled in for Tuesday week but of course that is going to be subject to t.v. Companies getting involved you had call Robertson speculation take some special type t.v. Companies not to be involved like Southampton Spurs want to replace surely surely. Tottenham Spurs taught them against Southampton doesn t trump it against Newcastle particularly given what s happened here today let s get some views from Steve Bruce the new cultural manager off to Newcastle military united now that we didn t play well enough on the day so the way we look at is we re still in the box I know for a fact it will be better down in Oxford tend Is it because let s be fair today we haven t done anywhere near enough to win the Cup tie with we haven t passed it quick enough we ve missed controlled it with with Mr Black and white here all afternoon from the 1st minute until the until the 9th So when you play like that wherever it is then you know you don t deserve to go through so played to Oxford that made it a really really good cup tie for then but certainly we didn t do enough and we can t make any excuses you know we ve have to accept that we we didn t do enough on the day to win the match he looked straight at Figure didn t he the end of the game probably thinking about the the fact that it s eating into that time that he wanted to regroup he. Yeah they got a lot of injury problems as well they were not that bright so he was very very frustrated think what he said was it was exactly right and you should be don t he went on it or not sort. Them out all right 109100 He s our telephone number if you re tweeting us that b.b.c. Experts. So you can t you know I did a lot for you know you know here is James policy on the captain for the day Jamie Mackie live with later Jamie what an afternoon for the football club you ve taken a Premier League side all the way to the war and wish not to yeah definitely I think obviously on another day we might have even. One at the end and it s just you know massive credit to the lads obviously in a in a really important league season where sort of all our focus on that that we ve we ve managed to have some really good results in a cup and great opportunity now to go home and and try and win because there s no point planning games in any and again your plans of things which is going to make the numbers up and logic in a good account of themselves How much did you enjoy it in division as a team today yeah I think as games going like this obviously. Been been older now. You watch some of the boys who haven t played maybe in games like this year and they re such good players it takes them a little bit of time to go actually you know we we comply and we can do well if you know I think you could see that for the. Players sort of. Not just enjoyed it but I would get more confident as it goes along and I think that was the message that I don t get back on the coach and have regrets that you could have done a bit more because you didn t want your bit nervous or you didn t know how and allowed to go into and obviously like any game like when gets a win because you ve got a lot of games. Can t wait to play at home in front of our fans you said in the week about not think about it what would you do it came to your rescue it was interesting to see the process yeah I mean. I don t actually know the complete ins and outs of what is allowed or not allowed today because we re not and we re not in contact of it every single game. Where there is nothing to to major in a game that needed need to look into. Oversea and offside in the thing in the 2nd after obviously I think they got right but it s hard to tell. Event if it helped us at some point but there was nothing to major in the game game game is a good game and a good battle between 2 teams you ve got the home fans on the players block and I was not part of the thought going into it trying to keep it tight yeah I think that obviously you can t let a side like this when when I ve got 4 House obviously get momentum and get into their stride because I get confident and obviously the fans here streaming passion and I think obviously they get any sniff of them taking full control of the game it become even harder so yeah we had to kind of stop them in a rhythm and. A little quiet here and. You know that s probably part of what we were just concentrating on on you have to concentrate so hard to such a good player so. That was that was a game plan having a good shape and breaking from not being all the clever we used to very proud to lead the side of the South and yeah I was yeah I was certainly was and I think I ve said before to you guys and anyone is equally as special for me than it is for someone planning for the 1st time or plan against big sides that we ve done next season because you just don t know how long you ve got left so if one s got a different reason you ve always got a different purpose playing football where you re me who is at the back end of someone who s just starting now is still equally special and it s very proud to lead the team out in front of a packed house and the lads to go on and play so well there you don t need a ball flash across 6 yard box where we can see quite close she would tip you sliding in there yeah so I was closer see it wasn t across so it s hard to kind of read you know you can do is from a leg and just sometimes they go in after I m up in offside I don t think I probably offsides so response and and my vision I would probably you know go back home and try and be in my home which is of the going to be the end or the very end Marcus Brown going through a hole in one of the charts there s little for margin sometimes only. Definitely yeah we had we had chances that s for sure we had a chance and the lads believed in themselves in the 2nd half and you know now for not going on chances are you know I would take confidence from that and hope to have a go in the 2nd in the 2nd guy and my left shoulder when you for your 1000 oxer financier that s fantastic and yeah brilliant and you know let s hope now that you know our main focus we ve said in all these Cup games is to try and try and they were in the league and we really believe that we ve got 18 games now and that was our a nice distraction as it was nothing more than that and a great for the fans to come to the stadiums in and watch us play but I m sure if you ask them you know we want to narrow for wait for us to try and kick on in the leg because that s a sideline thanks to the modem. And Amy Mackie there with Nathan 080-810-9102 have your say you can text is a triple 3 star you text with the word Oxford at b.b.c. Oxford sport is our phone number we can get more reaction in Philly I think with a man who I thought a brilliant game today but might still be ruing what happened here. Is Marcus Brown when they. Wrote of the very end then were you thinking this is it. I mean I ve also there s a couple times of this is that it was he was a. Month and a coward is just that if you. Think there s a couple of chances I had personally for my God this is it wasn t to be bad enough in the lad s. Account of themselves out there on the pitch that I worked out for each other where the game plan a game plan and we stuck to it. For everyone and everyone gave it their all and we worked hard as a team. Checking our pace in Holland and as you as well in yourself out there and to take Newcastle for it was clear the plan so I knew he worked for a forward making a couple times at the end of the film the breakers there was pushing to get the winner. Of the post came on and placed it on the pitch we could make it on the break. Will take about. Stadium for. The fans out there so they were standing we had in front a whole game they really did push us and I just don t. Think. You can watch the clip in quarter when as the monsoon against time you played in is the softening as well it s been quite an action packed couple weeks for you this is this is what I wanted this is what I knew was I was coming into and I knew my game so so so so good for me I won my games and I m playing have been a happy place right now. How good it scored is this compared to what you have over the last year or 2 do you think I think it s called Dish is more well Joad. Everyone. Is more together. Obviously the players are different barfing the sort of philosophy that the governments and the club doesn t change and players I think you just buy into it more this year and. You know if this is a violent hit more than it did last year and they ll be a better squad if the boys next year and whoever it was not if the boys are here by and who is going to be even better. I was going in the right direction definitely use reason if you can but you know Robinson very very well to get the best out of players what is it about him how he does not do you think. I think the respect that the players have for the guy for his massive players or buy into what I ve got to tells us which obviously helps and you know his business you can only listen you know I mean. I m a person have a good relationship with a guy which is why I wanted to come back here played well and have a good season last year. And I trusted the government to get the best at me again from January so early in the decisions I was working but in terms of class day you don t motivate yourself to play I would be very nervous some players as well you seem to not have that new game in the young players seem to be fully focused not too nervous. To be 1st to the score discords quite a young squad. Say the sort of commitment and dedication to the cause and the fire that we have for each other is massive. As a young player he saw the moment in the situation going to be and be and have been there was a plan for this many people some some get faced some another someone only know we had like I said game power and everyone stuck to it so it could shift around with the. Story today were magnificent when they heard about the I just said the back for an Alex in front of their money see they gave a great account of themselves today there was a magnificent from the start to finish gave it our all stayed solid state didn t really have any clear cut chances darker remember anyway so credit to the defense. And going forward February was a busy month you ll see a massive games coming up no more so the next week very different occasion but equally important if not more so definitely off in the league for us right now is probably more important just at the table now when I went back in and go a little bit catching up to do now. But like I said I m sure the commitment that occasion to the cause like I said and the way the team works I think is doable definitely obviously a student try and bring players if they can. Anybody asked You re pretty right now you d say this is a club become does not yeah definitely is so great Phil is a great place to be. Like a family and I feel I feel I m being back here you know sort of thing. And I think the boys are coming they don t have to go and don t know that it s a very well they re going to get a grip so that really quickly because that s the sort of we re looking forward you know we re not looking backwards and and so you know ever comes in if players come in is that going to be ready to come into a strong unified to respond usually do you think about that lost me a chance to just move on you know I think as a player. If there s any player. That can so you go to sleep fine off the games. For me I ll be up all night probably just thinking what if or if or if or if. You know like I said we got a good result. We ll go back to the customer and we ll have another good go and sure one. Yes it was a decent charge but yet it was saved by the goalkeeper was an avg Larry miss and I thought he was the real threat for Oxford United all the way through the gate he did mention the league one table by the way United down another place after Peter present result against World room today so it s which top of the table after beating Lincoln 48 from 27 rather and 47 from 27 beaten by Peterborough Wickham 3rd Coventry 4th 5th Sunderland 6 the point above Oxford United who played the same amount of games as Sunderland but too few of them Peterborough who were 5th and one fewer at United have played than the top 3 let s hear what some of the fans leaving the ground are saying off the new calls for United know he s been talking to them what a way from trust the from gossip don t want you to get up and say we saw we did the job. 2 very bright morning is right for us. Whatever that is needed to write every one of those no yeah we re going to suffer it was it was great for us tonight what we did we didn t really know. We just. We played the kind of football. Thank you very much bright which you know Sir Thomas Hughes. About your journey to the game where if you come from. Travelling from. London. And from my own sport you would. In the grandmother s funeral. But most of the week on a positive note. Well don t know what speed for taking the game to Newcastle could and should have won it about Alan Shearer won t be dancing around the match of the day studio tonight. Magpies definitely want a New Castle today and we won t let it be 2 for joy in Oxford for them well played . In the boys how good was that say the London yellows can t wait to play them off the park at the carrots also today brilliant performance from our boys now an opportunity for the fans to get behind united we will smash them at home f.a. All the ninety s barbershop wanted to win but what a great performance and more money brilliant result says Mark wonderful great performance and amazing support as well. As you proud of the fans as much as they are with the team and I think cull Robinson called it Nathan we didn t need that it was about the club today as much as anything. No the great Cajun weather comes together has been on the table and that s so much good will and is now which is what I know would be now at the football club in recent seasons as it got there and my club maybe found a way out in the beginning but he said he s back not community spirit that plight in October a game for the football club and of the people coming together when you bring this in of his head it sometimes is part of the even walking often into the club so this is what happened as it s often in the notes but United have come to a Premier League side who are in good form and they ve done they ve held them and they ve taken them back to the a jolly good off the chest and he s got going to head it in now with Joe into turns and push it up put it on himself away from Go read it to the penalty area tell him to night off one or 2 in the past year for long stopping the pace from nowhere light but now to some maximum comes inside long journey so I go right back outside the box then find one stop at the course of the penalty area I m only going to buy into clear and Brown can t hold up a new call to come again is a 2nd wave of black and white to talk he added head inside launched off of the charge you take the pound the area nonstop goes up they free kick my old gentleman just shoot into the so I think I want to be called up to challenge him take a. Spot in the air and heads down straight to the marks and so much move down by the before the fly cuts in so I chew into the every now prefers to go suck up to the people who have pulled up to the tide to give it back to my old chip back in the penalty area shouted out over the crushed up 6 yards what happens now with yeah yeah we got to be on checking for the county profile and I know that our poll which which you going to think about. No decision no foul no cattle tick still male male the maximum he s now take you ll go and he s got away from it the wrong side of it is Goldman Sachs as well as if he s not that the trader would have thought to get low got a right to make a save in the 1st real. Shot to go for my this. He spoke to Sam No you might think about he spoke about nicely for me to keep he doesn t they ve been up he s behind and he is a go to New Castle they got some maximum and there to the penalty area left side sticks out a foot just the new custom on temporarily the show comes in to charge the 100 year again now so how cool kept away from that chased up to the halfway line of thought must have been a shout then becomes a corner at the 6 yard box of a scramble pub going to go scrambling merrily at more schedule our bridgehead fact taste to edge of the area try to trick you just lost the ball completely new calls to clear away and more into the challenge and I will continue to buy stuff so I put some marks and I find in this page much as a white picket rope to keep coming inside the wall goes up look at it and I don t start a good job that you have to give up now I don t have play shot away tomorrow I did so much and I want to get in the penalty area to shoot each of my to put his side down not to do is laugh to market products the way a marquee going to charge you a potential sales out comes the keeper they get their 1st card all over red touch for new stuff on it with care in cart now the noise level here is rising dramatically it is slick and Joe Linton pitches talking so much back at him building to turn to touch it sorry but I think about a shot you don t stop and drive until you get deflection stickier moldering well site right side there he cost me a post back if you re riding in the final touch come up the goalkeeper goes behind for another colon is it that if not united back finds a long one touch things about across he goes but the problem is on so I proud to use it in a post that clipped a wife back to Brown and saw the error look pretty sure it s polish just given to our youth that s a very good effort for a market crowd and a way to my left and I may need 3 next to me on the nose $3000.00 all to bind up the folds of the sharp intake of breath because that looks close to Marcus Brown go in possession now Ben is not going to stop white he s got probably over half of the right here is Marcus Brown Have you talked to the people here like proud to get out of office for. Out how to say because I m proud to say to somebody else or a penalty it s not being given they typically shot the officer for Actually I did not be taken nearly I ll go into the for some of those fines but not if the penalty is the thing that would stop the fight to the back end but I think that may have come up in the United flight and that this will go to the a all for it off site black that s been spotted by the referee the boys be netted. But did it come off a note for the United flight you cough of course but brownies Cody protection I don t think you don t go and I think to the face of God. That would have I thought the only thing was they would couple from the mug shots no no show coronated to do that I would smoke and I put up a new car so. I thought now bring down the road and that s going to be you know the bookkeeper of the United flight I would snort I put up a new car so I knew how. To bring that out on the road and that s going to be you know the booking photo studio $95.00 nights in a hole and goes forward Brooks but he takes on Clark and he gets into the penalty area I need to know anything I gotta go he taught powers you know I think he will run full I told I don t but you know I didn t stop each time it suggests it. Was. What did it back to the on field decisions and. 3 you know it is funny because it would they were hot in mouth moments yeah I think the penalty particular the 1st often we looked at was a. Fall off of your experience for all of us but as you say in the end all was Ok for United in the end so close to having that chart talk to a guy who just talked about not sleeping not the chart he said it s very easy to watch men who. Do this a lot it isn t when you re playing you have to start the 2nd many through to a 1st touch. But the board possum door was a bit hot he was. Blaming God he might woman government the other way to the did was to get there after I talked to born 2nd wanted to settle and I could go to pass the key in yet and all I could do was just sort of getting on and trying to go was it if it sat on it but himself to approach not into the next round or any need for replay atory ailed me awake all night about that when somebody from the national press asked me what you do you tonight a almost used language that going in the right when he came to visit I think you ve got his eye without a point and you could see just how frustrated he was yeah but a guy be proud of his performance has an absolute in you know he sang about came to play games are came to be involved in days like this he was asked about playing as a false 9 the I never as well by National Journal said to our player I m told it s not a good time to play anywhere I want you to don t plan to Frensham afford any midfield attack he said when you and this is interesting point is when you cross that white line you take responsibility for yourself and you play in the position you re told it wouldn t work or you enjoy when you come off you can talk to manager and you can a a feeling you can you can have a go at him or you can say what s what s right and what s wrong he said but as players when we cross that line it s down to us not refreshing Haydock because often players will not take responsibility but you hear bits and pieces and they talking cliches and what have you he said no if we are sent out to play somewhere that s what we must do for the football club and for ourself good territory was really positive tonight Marcus Brown on the field and then in the interview as well Newcastle United Neil Oxford United all the results in James s Park replay choose day week unless the t.v. And you can be a bit of a rogue Ok And yes it s really good fun friend of mine introduced me to it I went to look for on you know. Online sites that might be selling games and it went out in the eighty s so how do you go on to the very special auction site you can get anything on and get myself a old copy the law has been in some of these last forever but you know thanks to them we have huge fun every Christmas you know you stay where you are because I m going to be talking to you very shortly so let me know about your board games or the games that you play as a family over Christmas 080-810-3800 is the number to ring lovely came is answering the calls of soft news or have a chat with her you can text on 81 trouble 3 Start your message of the word so don t email Sam The phrase at b.b.c. Be That s mud and lonely this Christmas just going to say a shout out to John this don t bridge Hello John he says when old at home with a glass yet you know he s still working till 6 were lighting till 5 today so I don t see that it s too late for the shoppers will create a way bit and town was very very busy early and there s a lot of very vocal parks I tried to get myself a snacking egg yeah in the supermarket and the queue Wow So I m on a huff you know Joe I m just going to I m going to get a little bit finished today exactly if you re not bought it by now you don t need it and that may. Oh may not be true 20 minutes past 4 how edge Sherry lovely to see. If you go to a board game or game the play is a family quiz normally is a family law kind of a had been really big board game family member sister used to play a board game called Willow that was based on the 1980 s. Work Davis film is a very good film if you re looking for something to watch this Christmas it s probably one of the streaming sites somewhere but it was ridiculously complicated this is like a whole day s worth of investment to get anywhere near the end of this game and would regularly and in arguments all the Borg and just being thrown across the room or meeting various other childish tantrums say yes the tantrums and I think I used to play frustration with tangled frustration with my brother and her popping thing in the middle of it with this and I think frustrating as your d.n.a. Where is the pleasure in this take you and your children playing this thing it is designed to frustrate you there s going to be tears at some point and I think all games probably best consumed as part of an evening s adult entertainment including a bottle of wine while my niece should be fun to play because my brother would be you know in tears we re told it would look terrible she s babysitting us. From those floods it is what we are great family for board games card games Ok but I have to say I don t like the look of the games a based on t.v. Promo Have you ever played he wants to be a millionaire have to have play deal or no delay and that s a bit weird oh there s another one point Nestle care where it was really cool to play and you just think off I ve lost the will to live free and the point is I have a point as such in that is quite common in terms of like yeah sort of work out the numbers and who s got war and it will gets a bit much and we used to have a different ball game a new board game every Christmas. But you know if it was just stick to the old favorites the ones you know you don t have to be here for a fortnight to get it all done fashionable on this year was I m Pictionary ask that you hear about it was a Pictionary but with a kind of magic wand kind of device you drawer in the air and it kind of appears on the t.v. Screen. Somehow there baronies one of the big Like must haves this year. And me about it is sold out everywhere so maybe for people running around time today trying to find their picture Yeah but they were gone why don t you tell me about that in September sorry Ok some of this is that in mind for $22.00 and if you don t mind so what have you got looked at stories online there s a couple of things they 1st one is a bit of a theme across the website today which is lots of lovely people doing things for others which is very much the theme of Christmas so you ve got students for university or have served up a 1000 Christmas dinners for homeless people across their region there s a nice little video of them doing that there s Glen Etheridge a widower who has up Christmas for over 2000 people this year and start the tradition back in 2014 so another lovely kind is here out there he is based is in Lincolnshire then you go Mo from Nottingham who sent out nearly 2000 Christmas cards to strangers just walking around putting cards for people s doors in case they didn t have one with chocolate and an invite to Christmas dinner as well as Christmas dinner to lots of people on Christmas Day There s a charity in Wales that s ever been overwhelmed by donations of toys and present so that kids can have from different families like a toy bank was like a food bank card I think that s a great idea and the others I got overwhelmed with the nations and got like shelves and shelves of toys to make sure that everybody gets a gift and they gave out $1600.00 presents last year and say they re on the plate that this year so there s lots of lovely people doing lots of lovely things all around the country who say there s no kind of Christmas spirit but there is a looking forward that is and we ve a lovely story coming out between 5 and 6 around the Facebook group who have a very clever actually game based on helping the homeless so stay tuned for that what else you got down there all the other one is the big one of the big day is coming any 2 more days till Christmas 11 later Christmas is the day almost an arsonist answer. B.b.c. Written 9 lessons for a happy family Christmas and we re going to go through them all but the 1st one is about easing the Christmas crush they have got lots and lots of house guests don t expect them all to get on because you know it s lots of people crammed into a small space we re not really used to it so if someone wants to go out for a walk by themselves just let them. Because that kind of enforced jollity exact you know too many he s really too small a space Don t be a kitchen martyr this is about the other person is always in the kitchen or going to get dinner ready all the time you know and accept the help even if you have no money in charge of the kitchen get the vege peeled by someone else I m sure your kitchen is very organized very democratic might I don t like people helping me clear up No no really yes and because I don t I m not Christmas if you re really really I m very careful about how I stack additional info other people stack and I look efficiently done I do you know I just have to start from the beginning Ok. Making kind of boundaries so you know who s Christmas is was so if you have got lots of people and lots of different your kids running around older relatives and I really want to do the same things that the grown ups want to have a sherry and open their presents later on you know let them open the kids presents in the morning don t you don t have to do everything together and everything at the same time so you know let people have their own little Christmas is called a Christmas truce on all things politics so you know no mention of bricks that we don t every day this Christmas Day That s going to be a relief one of the tips is you know actually do play simple games have some karaoke go for a walk do some things that you know you might kind of bring people together doesn t have to be but if people want to join in let them have their space and if you got grumpy teenager on their phone they re not going to suddenly run out and want to you know do share odds with you but some of the family might say it s about respecting boundaries but you know having those type of places to do things I ve got a top tip is now about if you re going for a walk I read an article the best time to do it is before you ve eaten so you can partly it kicks your fat genes into getting some and they will they will burn better more for. Even even more you have an extra dollar up of crime resource. But don t fall into the spending trap so that s on the run out tomorrow and blow the bank on lots of presents that you don t necessarily need or someone doesn t want and the final one is this one start dry January early to avoid rattles and. Things. You know everything in moderation much of scribal through that. Yes of course season times with fantastic hot dates. Back to the. Telecoms works taking places temperature as well as schools and it s heading towards. The end a gravel Hill approach. Is pretty heavy. There accused. When around about Winchester this. Place is. Surely high street. Coming from heading towards Newport on the high street coming in from the direction it s delays and trains on Southwest and it s a limited timetable because of the strike. Peter to bring it right let s do one more from 1977 then we ll get into our really wanting guest. a lot of the. Everyone guessed is world Steve an Australian who started the beyond again the Abba tribute band he was on with us last week we thought even might be Mr Burton for a little bit of kind of album esque music and it s fair to say depending on budgets Yeah a lot of bands would have struggled to put a strain year into the mix because it was only a small population still it s only a small population so we had to make our own fun out in the stratosphere I guess that s why where a lot of tribute bands stem from is that went beyond again was actually born in Australia to stop playing in Australia 1st yes it was in a top in on a watering which is a suburb of Melbourne and yeah I kind of thought I ve got it. On to have a musical revive have a music and give it this kitchen 9 that I ve dreamt up your own again so why are you looking at other tribute bands but timing and making I did is or were you one of the 1st trip you had you seen an AC d.c. Tribute band for instance. Tribute bands went really around I think bionic and kind of started the whole thing I think there were Elvis impersonators and the like but there wasn t really a tribute band as such I guess people considered themselves to be in cover bands and would you know play other people s music yeah I mean I wasn t really a fan of Apple when I started it was more that I just thought it would be a bit of fun to revive something that was around in the decade before and of course never have been to Australia hadn t I yes they recorded half of the movie out there and he was in 1977 that a lot of success out there and many many number one hits as well very popular I got to be honest right I m warming to you slightly you can stay for a look you can study for a little bit longer I mean 5000 performances on the a bell in 72 countries in 31 years you performed at Buckingham Palace for her majesty Queen Elizabeth in the juke of Edinburgh You ve toured with should know at 20 in most trip you x. . Don t get these kind of breaks been around for about 30 years so I think people kind of remember you in again from from years back and being very popular similarly to a band like The Bootleg Beatles who are obviously really popular you know it s if you re paying tribute to a very popular band such as that Mr Lee in Pink Floyd chose No The great example then people are going to recognize that this is a tribute band that kind of mirror this degrades the success of the original band had a case a tell me this right Ben Portsmouth came in and he brought me his cd now I m a huge Elvis fan and I love watching Band life but I don t really want to see day of him singing Elvis songs because I can get Elvis singing Elvis songs like I can get so not dressed singing Sinatra songs right if you can get the real thing that s going to be so your pay Christmas with Bjorn Again has this got any of the tracks on it because you ve done other people s songs if you ve done those in an hour but why I have not heard it yet what happens you know my dear was to do something you know Christmassy cause we haven t really done that before I wouldn t sit here and say we could do anything as good as those songs that timeless and you know we would not match them I wouldn t want to even really guard down that path of recording Abba songs. Songs that we thought would be popular and try to get them the Abba may kind of sort of highlight get And you. This 1977. For tomorrow was Video Killed the Radio Star one hit wonder. As well. That was hit for them. What about the flying lizards money else a good one. Pop music with a hit with Moonlight music s we can use up what about living by numbers new music. The original film sequel was and I think 988 Ghostbusters 2 came out after the original in 1985 featuring the brilliant Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd how would write misuse of the possible successor. As the goes bust is that there was a film a couple of years ago it was a remake of the reboot it didn t link up with the original story I kind of liked it in the. Comedians and I really like Melissa McCarthy and Kristen when they didn t do that well at the box office this new film Ghostbusters afterlife is a continuation of the original story it s effectively Ghostbusters 3 let s have a listen to the try to. Focus. Somehow a town that isn t anywhere near tectonic has. A loud music. Is shaking on a daily basis. And Usual excitement and tension and scary noises that goes into a movie trailer I don t think 10 year old Pat was ever more excited than queuing up to see the original film in 1985 big marshmallow man lives with me to this day now the original cast Bill Murray Dan Aykroyd only Hudson and Sigourney Weaver of course let s not forget are supposed to make cameos in the film they weren t in that clip they were glimpsed in the trailer who was pull rugged star of an amount of course in The Avengers movie Strange things out surfin Wolf left over stock and designated survival I just McKenna Grice the trailer showing a single mother and her 2 kids moving to a mysterious inherited absence in a small town and then the ect ect no one goes screaming out of a bar into a field that everyone goes from Ghostbusters that comes out next summer directed by Jason Reitman coincidentally the son of the original film director Ivan Reitman and he is probably the most watched thing on line this morning can t wait to see that 9 minutes past 8 on b.b.c. Radio so a good morning for me Pat systems that Prince Charles is going to be in Portsmouth later today he s the guest of honor at the commissioning of the Royal Navy s new aircraft carrier h.m.s. Prince of Wales and east Hampshire and out of white reporter Dominic Black has more on this Good morning. Good morning to you Pat Not a thought you would live in peace. Some of them want a big day in the life of the ship a taste. Yes a big day for an absolutely gigantic ship I m looking at She s on the jetty here in Portsmouth with a huge great how lit up with white lights and she s just chucked in behind her sister ship h.m.s. Queen Elizabeth which actually interestingly has one of the Navy s new f. $35.00 Lightning jets on the flight deck so that s also a 1st for Portsmouth but on board h.m.s. Prince of Wales it s going to be a real hive of activity this morning because they re getting ready to welcome about 3000 guests including Charles and Camilla for a very important moment in the life of the ship the commissioning ceremony which will see her joining the fleet and it s one of those occasions where there is going to be a lot of tradition involved. That s right it s going to be very much like the ceremony that we reported on when this Queen Elizabeth joined the fleet so very traditional the national anthem being played a royal salute the guard of honor will be inspected by the royals you ll hear the commissioning warrant being read but the really big moment today is when the white ensign is raised up on the flight deck for the 1st time pictures of that are going to be being down to big screens below and then there s really going to be a celebration a big reception commissioning cake being caught and Charles and Camilla meeting many of the $700.00 members of the ship s company and as it always is on days like this what an important moment for the city of Portsmouth as well Don. Yes that s right we ve seen a few firsts but post of his very proud to be the home of the role Navy but it has taken a few hits in recent years past including the decision to scrap the last aircraft carrier h.m.s. All Croyle and the decision to sell off to see how areas to America said that really left the Navy without fixed wing at power for a decade and another blow was really the decision to close the shipyard here and move that work up to Scotland so for many local people this is really the start of a of a new era and there s intense interest in the ships of course with the arrival of a Smiths Queen Elizabeth we ve now got these 2 super carriers alongside here in Portsmouth and people all flocking to see them. I ve been speaking to some of them outside the naval base it s a wonderful scene through the evening which has been stalled recruitment for the post. But from the point. Really good to be here to see of putting on what we can called Super. Long. We have come over specifically to tell you through the whole patrol to see them from close and they are an amazing sight for people who haven t seen them alongside How would you describe them. Very very very powerful very impressive supposed to last 50 years but so quickly do you 3. If you feel the talk you want. To sponsor increase food pantry Chris numbers of people. I think is pretty and all I really really. Like military history present military source stuff and I think it s really good to see the products of all the tax and everything that goes into them are quite quite impressive I thought you know it s good to see them together probably never seen together again I d imagine. And you ve just been there to see him tell me more yes my friend wanted to take. Me on the yes. I saw the aircraft carrier for the 1st time on my birthday. And like my family is in the military as well so yeah this is really good to see them so lots of love from the city of Portsmouth it s not a public event today sadly don t see anything from the outside but the royals will be looking forward to it not least for Prince Charles because he s name is all right. An honor that is to have a ship named after you so I m sure they re going to be very excited about today and the fact they re going to arrive at Victory jetty going to be met by Houston the captain of Prince of Wales and Thomas is the commander but it will be a return visit for both of them Prince Charles visited the ship while he was in build in 2016 and gave the order for the final section to be lowered into place up at Ross side and then Charles and Camilla were both up in Roseau I think in 2017 for. The launch of the ship and on that occasion Camilla was the ship s sponsor gave the signal for a bottle of whiskey to be smashed on the how so they both take a very keen interest in the ship and we expect them to spend a couple of hours on board today Pat Dominic thank you very much indeed Dominic East Hampshire and I love white reports on b.b.c. Radio so an 814 is the time I m just having a quick look at the headlines on the front of the papers today mostly electioneering still Corbin could win without gaining a seat is the lead on the front of the Telegraph a report an internal conservative memo that warns that tactical voting in just 12 constituencies could oust Downing could oust Boris Johnson from Downing Street Alan Sugar backs the Tories over labor on the front of the sun Meanwhile the Guardian Tories accused of lying to distract from image of boy on hospital floor this is the picture of the little lad on coats in the waiting room at Leeds General Infirmary which Boris Johnson was shown and refused to respond to in an interview yesterday that s the front page of The Guardian on the front page of The Mirror Another want to similar picture actually from different hospital is pictured on the front page of the same paper that had the original want yesterday that appalling volcano in New Zealand I was watching on the news last night the most active volcano in years and safety warnings were ignored reports the are today no survivors left on the white island as it s notorious helped the critically injured to escape by boat an amazing and tragic picture on the front of the I with the headline no sign of life Meanwhile the mail and the Express pick up on something Boris Johnson said yesterday the future of the television license and its funding of the b.b.c. The Daily Mail has the headline Boris I might axe t.v. License and the Express has Boris threat to axe b.b.c. T.v. License he was asked on the campaign trail yesterday what you might do about it he said I m not going to make up policy on the hoof but we are looking at the long term future of what he called the Tax apparently the Mail reports today want to Boris Johnson s advisors Dominic coming. You ve probably heard a few times is examining whether the license fee should be scrapped entirely and whether that would force the b.b.c. To take advertising for the 1st time ever or just switch to a subscription model like Netflix and it s provoked a lot of debate about the future of the b.b.c. And its funding in the meantime the license fee stays in place until 2027 that s when the current period of the B.B.C. s Royal Charter ends could that change will it change before then in terms of the funding model because of course we still have the rug going on about the funding of free licenses for the over 70 five s perhaps it s time say some we should be looking at a different way of funding the b.b.c. We should be taking ads or we should have a voluntary subscription service not the universal license fee or tax as Boris Johnson called it yesterday and we re going to talk about this after 9 o clock on our big conversation so I d love to hear your thoughts please How s the license fee how it s day in a world when there s 400 channels and a particular problem for the b.b.c. In terms of television anyway is that younger people aged 35 and under 16 to 35 hardly watch anything live and it s the broadcasting that you re paying for in the main they are watching a lot of i Player they re watching a heck of a lot to You Tube but they re not watching b.b.c. 12 or 4 anything like as much as they used to do in an average week does this point to the end of the faith should we be doing it a different way would love to know your thoughts 110300. Is the time Emily Hudson I am sure and all of our political reporter is having a question on some coffee with candidates different locations around the south in the run up to the vote on Thursday and it s a battle of the personalities when it comes to the general election in Portsmouth as the 3 people who are standing for Labor Liberal Democrats on the conservatives in the south of the city are well known to a lot of people they re all councillors and 2 are former council leaders but it s not going to make a difference well Emily is with another one of the kind that say if she joins me from what s the name of the venue you ve pitched up I believe the coffee shop. Wearing canvas coffee which is within the Portsmouth and south east station they rent space here off Network Rail and South Western Railway to run a social enterprise cafe and it s been considering there s a train strike on it s been pretty busy and then out here people are rushing in to grab their drink before they catch the trains towards London but also people sitting here working this morning and as you say the final candidate was speaking to this morning has Join me now good morning to you Donna and let s 1st of all just talk about this Livan split issue with the BRICs Party candidate standing against you is that worrying you Well initially I mean I would have preferred I didn t have a break supporting candidates I mean Gates me particularly as I live the campaign here in 2016 but actually what s transpired over the 7 weeks of the election is that I think we ve got a very clear position the conservatives we want to get everyone is very well aware of forest on saying that over and over and so actually we re doing very well with people in Portsmouth who want to leave European Union and I feel quite confident that a number of them are going to be voting for me good luck to listen it s democracy he has every right to stand Ok let s go back to when walking down when to when to right and speaking to people in and out of the shops one of the people I spoke to was Phoebe She s 21 Kathleen s coffee shop the only thing I think I m really worried about at the moment is the n.h.s. I think I would ask them about one if they are going to make sure that it s public to everyone and that we will have it freely and also what they re going to do to make sure they supported in the long run for the future. Now I know Boris Johnson said over and over again the n.h.s. Is not up for sale in a trade deal whether or not people believe that is their own goal but the point about being supported in the future is a key one particular if we do have bricks it s always going to have enough nurses doctors porters cleaners staff to work in hospitals I think it s a great issue not sure I know Kathleen s where the young lady that works in fact the owner Kathleen s is very much supportive of all calls the n.h.s. Is a very important issue I think it s the number one public service in the country that people love the most We re going to be spending 33900000000 pounds extra in the term of the next government and hit him Portsmouth we are due to get a new any department 58000000 pounds and that was confirmed in July yes the n.h.s. Will always be free at the point of service for British nationals and people who are born live table of our lives or those that moved here and are paying into our national house service after a period of time in terms of this privatisation and all the kind of rubbish and scaremongering we hear this in the Labor party every single general election 24 hours to say the n.h.s. We had 2010 it s rubbish the truth behind it is that British civil servants who work in the department house of started talking to American civil servants about how we re going to get drugs in that we buy so many drugs for America how we re going to continue to buy them once the withdrawal agreement comes to an end we start to have a proper trade deal with America it s really important that we keep getting these drugs tariff free it s cheap as we can save the n.h.s. Money that s why they ve been meeting with them but listen the n.h.s. Is amazing we re going to have new hospitals new nurses and an n.h.s. Is going to be set up specially to bring doctors nurses in from around the world we have to talk about the climate because Portsmouth does have an issue with air pollution there was a climate hustings at the weekend you didn t go to a plane flew over it with your name on the back which people were very upset about what you did well 1st of all the plane was nothing to do with me it was not paid for commissioned organized by me my election agent or anyone else so I don t know who did it I don t really want to know I m not asking questions about who s done it because to be honest of you. Ever is not really sort of helped me that much Secondly in terms of the climate hostage while I ve done 5. Actually this is the final day before the election I had an event organize a community event organized with some elderly people in the city it was organized 4 weeks ago and I was invited to come Austin s t. Weeks ago so I did give me my apologies but listen when I was new to the council p.v. Panels on the Reeves of the council civic offices on the housing offices and schools secured the funding to electric voltage charging points on streets across the city we put the money in to put water drinking fountains across the sea from this so much that I had done and I also signed the 1st pledge in the city to end single use plastics within the city council you know associated organizations so you know we ve done our bit there s more to be done and I m delighted that the conservatives are going to spend $1000000000.00 pounds nationally on a plan that reduction measures by Tehran and around the world let s hear from another Vita Diane he was a Kathleen s having lunch with so like to remind everybody who s working in Parliament that we need to be honest and I think that is I think it s been obvious that. Honesty isn t always paramount so I just encourage them the right people will feel secure. With voting for the right party. Trust has come up again and again and again when I talk about people and Boris Johnson people don t you know they might like the conservative policies Boris Johnson is difficult for them are you able to sell him on the doorstep I think trust is a big issue across you know all political parties at the moment you know in some parts you know issues with Islamophobia and issues with anti-Semitism and also people are distrusting politicians because we have the largest vote this country s ever had in 2016 to deliver breaks it 17400000 people and actually Parliament hasn t delivered and I think that there is a huge distrust for politicians because of that I m not a member of parliament I m aspiring to be a member of parliament people who know me including your listeners I ve been coming on the show now big friend of a b.b.c. Radio 7 Love you guys a lot and you know whenever I do 2 interviews I always answer the questions more is right up front people than me to me on street stalls and community events and people have made me feel is well made that I wear my heart or my sleeve I say it as it is and if I get elected to be an m.p. Here in the south I will definitely be communicative on a statement people in town always tell them what I think and I can t let you go without mentioning a. Claim about the niceness faith and because obviously he s suggesting that perhaps the b.b.c. Should be funded a different way your views on the license plate Well I don t think that people over 75 should have to pay the license fee you know I think that a review of it is important parts I certainly want the b.b.c. To stay. South today you see Solon and all of you guys do a great job so you know I will be if I get elected to Parliament I want to try and help people that are over 75 but I also you don t want to Silesia valuable public service and not a subscription service No I don t think that would you know I d have to look at all of the information but I certainly don t want people over the age of $75.00 to be charged a fee Ok Donna Jones the conservative count of the southeast now heard from them all this morning on the show Patmos definitely check. The South is hot and you re right about that. With the Yes Well this is. This is the seat obviously which could tip. 31 votes in it so yes our final coffeeshop is it s more I will be Southampton I will be speaking to the count of that standing in that constituency Tomorrow I look forward to that Emily had said I love watching how much political reporter by the way of course you can see the details of all the candidates in all the seats b.b.c. Don t go to you Kate slash election. B.b.c. You radio. Nice to talk to you sir just before we get the answer and you introduce the song for as we ve been hearing in the news about the absolutely awful volcanic eruption yesterday at the White Island in New Zealand I m just looking at the pictures in the papers now of the wrecked helicopter that was brought down by the volcanic dust from the volcano for one thing the death of being there it s a place you know I understand you know it was a recess on last year before we stockpile and you know. What we took to the court and I look around some ghost money thing but Byron. And you can see why it s called the white tile and because a stiff of white dust is made from the say this but an easy to say saw the Nonetheless down size size across your heart it was before this I just to me was this a lake there up opposite Wellington in the national park it wasn t there before it s just a big river now it s a massive like. They call it a shaky Island Well yeah and you can see why after an event like that what do you think when you see those pictures on the t.v. And in the papers I mean it s the admin a most awful event 5 people dead and 8 missing at the moment is the latest report there s now talk of a criminal investigation about whether there should have been more safety borne ings for those who were on the island What do you think of someone who knows it. Is like Richard is there the must know the all the hot springs a lot of stuff you know it s coming at the ground all the time you can sometimes you can drive in you pull out and you could essentially his message in the bush but it s not just incoming I think running. We just had to do what we had today that before we did it we pride because with that goal we can t do nothing as it came up as a great big wall of thought and here is standing here fighting it without hoses and it was very scary. Again really pretty scary pretty hot pretty intense to Portland bronze at the World Championships in Oakland didn t Fletcher and Steve Bessel who were the 2017 championships held on to a medal in the 49th class and Southampton they go Newcastle United in the Premier League this afternoon the match kicks off a t.p.m. And his life. Radio news it s 3 minutes past 12 b.b.c. Radio and the kitchen garden with Rebecca Hello hello welcome along to the kitchen garden and gardeners questions he with you for the next hour. Yes the weather sounds like it s going to take a turn for the next 24 hours but don t let that dampen your spirits because we re going to talk about the delights of gardening at least for the next 90 minutes and for the 1st 60 of those we have got questions which is very much you ll power. The shot because we re here to help you any questions you ve got about in the garden things that might not be performing looking like they re supposed to local Maybe you want something identifying or even some ideas for decorating things that Christmas and we have the perfect bass in here today she is owner of pick the flowers she s in our h.s. John she s a Chelsea gold medalist and she s a floral teacher she is Pip Benz really well it s a lovely build up good alternating Hello how are you I m very well thank you for getting into the season I know. You know you know we ve been learning lots of past each other this morning because Pip Pip was so keen to be here on time for gardeners question. She arrived at quarter to 11 thinking she only had 15 minutes for she went on and we ve had well over like an hour and 15 minutes chatting before the program I take a walk where did the time go. To talk to the police if we don t work now we didn t go but we ve been learning lots about each other what we do in the run up to Christmas I ve learnt about pick for example one Christmas tree just isn t enough oh no you can t can t have just one I mean you ve got more rooms the one you ve got to get something in every room do you have one in the bathroom no. Good at all I think so I don t totally do not Yes Ok. She is quite say no promise you and we re going to be rattling through your gardening questions this afternoon so if you would like to get in touch with a question that I asked several ways you can do it Ok you can pick up the phone the number is always 808103800 Lina it s not there waiting for your calls if you phone Rob give you a question she will then put you through to pick up or if you all thought about this off to New maybe braving the shops doing a bit of Christmas shopping or off to the radio sounding carol concert in pool you could text. Question 81 triple 3 starting your message with the by it s own and and of course there s the e-mail as well that kitchen garden or one word at a.b.c. Dot co dot u.k. We ve got some emails to work through in just a moment and I would encourage if you ve got a question get in a really beat the queue pick up the phone now and get in with your question and we re going to start off talking questions by speaking to Elizabeth and I m on the phone Hi Good afternoon Liz of us well I would echo how do how can we help Elizabeth well on the difficult but I want recommendations for the small who are about not more about 2 or 3 well I wene. We could be no I think well I think you. Larry awaits very little if any is this in the open ground or in a pot now in the Open Graph Ok. Now that s a tricky one so you ve got bright bright cheery shrub for shady small That s the tricky bit is. A kind of comes that ain t shade I can promise you all sorts of things with flour and things but actually things that flour don t do well and you really need to go for something that s about 5 So we re looking at something really all berries that s an idea let me think what you could have the small berries that s a tricky one make a mix of the meat the whole I want it. Yeah I think you re going to struggle for something about generally things with berries tend to be really quite big so I m just trying to think of anything small with berries that s a bit of a challenge just now or otherwise I d be looking at photos plants and I d maybe look at some that perhaps tend to get a little bit bigger but in shade will be a bit smaller and you can print them and cut them for the house and things like that so something like a choice to turn out which is the lovely Sundance which is in Sun It s a very big. Right buttery yellow but actually in shade it s a lovely soft limey green which is very pretty you can cut it for the house it does have a bit of a scent to some people don t I comforted but as long as you re not touching the fire Lidge it it s not giving out the scent that s a possible. It s a choice yeah it was a choice either yes or no one that Andy Murray can do has a nice garden but I think it s in a pot Elizabeth is Nandina domestic or Sest is that any good reason to lengthy that s not going to like the shade for me that s the trouble a lot of the things that like the shade really do want a bit more sunshine like shade tend to be green because that s the way it works they ve got more cells that produce food in low light conditions. I do one I would think about is very gated box actually that s really good it s a very handsome shrub and of course you can clip it to shape so you can get a bit of fun with it because it isn t it s nice to graze nicely you will find it s quite expensive when you buy it because it s a slow grower but Hatchie is worth it it s a really nice tribe that looks good in the shade. Wonder about things that you can get. You were right want to get something with some actual bulbs underneath so if you use something like the choice or you could use you want to miss the little variegated you are numerous but maybe get some bulbs underneath as well so they ll come up through them in the early spring and you get lots of color then and those grow well in shade as well so I think about those the other thing that s very good in shade there s been a Steeler which is a thing that looks a bit like a for me I m it s New Zealand plant and it looks totally as if it wouldn t grow in Shea So it s got silver foliage which is classic We always think it goes in the sun and it s got pointed. Like Harry fire. Which is lovely silky foliage beautiful and pointed and that grows really well in the shade so there s one called a stevia silver sawed and that s very accurate and sure it begins with an a or an i and a a s t e l a his the shade that s causing a problem here is the shades the difficulty used for that but I thought it s almost sort of go with the fly when I actually go with something that loves the Shah eat. So some of the things that you know your ferns and stuff like that the look if you lots of texture and interest. You could use things like pulmonary but that s not going to give you the height that s a lot of growing have banksias plant. But it will give you lots of color that that sort of low level fire ledge but it is a difficult spot on Afraid for bright color. Well you know what I have a go yeah if you want to know how to source any of those shrubs that pits mentioned in the r.h.s. Plant find your line is a great resource if you just type in the name it will list the local stockist for you oh yeah all right no that s not how my show they are You re welcome thanks for your question. Let s see if we can find Joni help find not find us if we can how Pi no way she s over here Hello John how you doing oh I m all good how can we how do. You That s what s your problem you don t want your verge own from when just going to be very involved when just you know over the years. Why don t. Y all. Want a small young. Sort of well. You know. Boardwalk. Yeah your well what you ve done so far is absolutely right he wants high humidity lowish light levels so yes. Well when we get it yeah. That s why because the winter sun s not too bad so that ll be Ok but it won t so high humidity lots of people hang it just on a piece of wire and just let it hang over over the bar somewhere where it gets nice and say. Oh yeah yeah no shower is perfect so you tell the right playing. You know sort of course. You have to come in and have a have a quick shower every now and then come in and spray them all this yellow way. You know what I did was I don t go by trying very awkward bring in things but yeah I say so you do the right thing you re hanging in the right place yeah get moisture out so that humidity you want to just keep going so that s fine you re doing really well you ve got a gold star there Joe Yeah yeah. Good good Christmas and everything oh thank you. Thank you thank you question take care of the journey and Winchester that was now Pip enlighten us what is Spanish moss I m assuming that something be used for flower arranging Yeah it s you know when you go to Florida and they have the weird silver stuff hanging off the tree. Looks very closely I was like yeah it s that hanging stuff you know that Spanish moss so it s a kind of to google this now Ok yeah it s one of those aplan So basically it s an apple and so it s no moss No it s not actually most it s an apple Yeah and it s very silvery and when you have it fresh it s so pretty you often buy the wrong which looks height sort of dusty and. Sad but the fresh stuff has this lovely silvery fire Lidge gives you long dripping sort of fingers of do you know what it reminds me of. I m not sure I should know the top. Do you know what I remind you of. What would you use it for what would you use easy to hope so be it for enough Lorraine Geminids if you were doing something nice steal magical all sort of trying to get a lot about being fair and it s not spirit. Like you are not just that feeling of sort of a bit of old so you carry the frostiness on it yeah no I don t hand you yet if you like one if you re doing the weather forecast on the telly and how much heat for ages. Because if you let it dry it ll just keep forever and if you can keep it alive it just keeps growing it s lovely stuff we ve all done something the softening Janish monitor nothing to do with Atul more now it s a kind of Tillandsia I think it may be to learn c. Use annoyed days but I m not quite sure so you can only tell I mean Joe mentioned she brought it in check here the fresh stuff is really hard to get hold of so you bought from one of the sort of people like the carnivorous plant grows will often have it people like you know interesting thank you and thank you Jan can I draw your attention to the photographs that are being sent in from Millie who emailed in some photographs she would desperately like this tree identified that is I think it s a teacher field Abby she mentions just explain to us what it looks like and then help us with identifying it Ok well this is a handsome tree obviously is an older tree it s not a huge tree it s probably a bell which $12.00 to $15.00 foot Holly but it s equally 12 to 15 foot wide as well it s got a lovely why well. Going head to and quite twisty looking branches which is a you wouldn t particularly think of it when it s younger for that because it tends to be quite a straight sort of limb tree at the beginning it is this is showing in the winter Yeah the moment so it s lovely tree and it is covered in red berries. So when you look at the picture of the fire has one taken a little bit earlier it has a green leaf sort of oval plainly lots of red berries on it but you can see the photos behind it s got starting to color up quite nicely Ok but that s another clue the one thing I can t see on here which would confirm my identity can definitely is whether it has forms on the stands Ok that would be on the branches rather than the main stem and actually if it is I think it s a kind of Hawthorn is an American horse do you yeah Ok coat Cretaceous prune if I really are Ok quite unusual it is relatively unusual you often see it planted as a street tree nowadays because it s a really good nice sort of nice headed tree you know it s known to make not seasonal You get lots of pairs of interest because you have white blossom on early in the season a good strong green leaf then you get autumn color then you get the berries in the autumn so you see a really nice run of color right through the year it s the berries that are on usual yank on a tray of that size Yeah and these a big berries they re not little so like a sword with Berry they re big so more like a rose hip it s in the same family and that s more like hip Berry than it holds very well to the till the birds decide they re really hungry and then they disappear with it all Ok native not native It s an American native Ok yeah so it s comes from there says sort of a good. Sort of North American aren t Yeah well it s nice if you ve got a tree near where you live that you ve walked past lots of times and always wondered. What it is yeah and these are it to be if you happen to be low can walk past and say and now you between dent and with many thanks for the question many you listening to countless questions as part of the kitchen garden on b.b.c. Radio I m a pickpocket you expert this afternoon the fabulous pick Ben Slate Now if you would like to get in touch with a question you ve heard how easy it is make the most of Pip while she is here she s only here on your questions until 1 o clock and next week no I don t want to panic you but there is no God This question well the reason there isn t so you won t have the opportunity to put your question in next Sunday because we have a record is edition of Gardner s questions that when we went out to record Western sense and changes in West and about September October time Pitt was one of the ex-pats along with Rosie Hardy we haven t had it yet so you will get to hear that in all its glory next Sunday but it does mean for you as gardeners if you want to get in touch the question you going to do this week so long as you know you won t be able to next week so you can pick up the phone 088103800 you can text 81 trouble 3 starting your message with words so don t so many ways to get in touch you basically have no excuse or the kitchen garden at b.b.c. To u.k. So those are the ways you can get in touch let s move to an e-mail from a in autumn who says however back I have a 5 year old gunner and a large plastic pot which has got holes in it and is partially submerged in a shallow pond the leaves have died down now on the plant should I take the rotten brown leaves off and can I comb past them also does it need covering with anything over the winter thank you for an informative program will try my case the Brownlees now indulge sound as if they ve got probably frosted and gone sort of still love g. So the gunner a for anyone who doesn t know it is. And rhubarb huge such enormous big rhubarb like leaves you see in sort of the tropical gardens in coal mole kind of thing it s quite an exotic plant a little bit tender since difficult one to grow I think they ve actually gone a bit sludgy and rather than just died off and still feel quite firm then I would just dispose of them I wouldn t put them into the comps have too much more Easter in them Oh really so they ll just actually make things sort of trouble than actually come Paul so they have just a bit too much water if this still relatively firm financially Bend over the plant because it s one of the ways of protecting honor is to actually cut through the the stem a little bit the new leaf stem unfold them over the top of that and then pack some straw or something in with them so it just helps protect them over the winter Yeah and then so move them off to the end then I take them off in the spring Yes So it s it s kind of how soft if they go on if they can really soft take them off and then protect with some straw hats in something like that yeah that would keep few degrees of frost off the crown because they are attend their sort of slightly tender plant certainly in this area something on them to protect them through the winter and then they ll be fine in the spring you have to quite a lot of room to have a gun I think when you definitely you re going to have a fairly large pond I have to search yes the average garden pond it would take up the entire pond what s there do they do you miniature versions of Gonna do Wolfgang Are there a slightly smaller ones and there are things like a similar to a gun or other you know give you a similar look but yeah no really it s a big plant gone around the Carter and when you say they re related to Repub see by looking at them you can see that they were like but not had a bull not not I just check you know because I don t mean a lot of us so please don t do anything with them they just that pretty you know I did have a question about government for a long time I was so it s nice to get something out a little bit different you get a gold star on the way well done if you get a gold. Why not get you a slightly unusual question in fact there are some phone lines free right now wait wait 103800 Let s move to some other questions that we ve got him before we check in now I ll tell you what Stevie s that we don t keep them waiting let s check on the rights then we ll come back and answer more if you ve gotten questions. Pvc you radio. And Stevie shingle is there with the latest How s it looking state How s it looking Yeah I m going to save the good news for later on in the. Ok All right we re going to start on the m 3 northbound still absolutely crawling as it has been for about an hour or 2 now not helped in part by the road works that are going on between junction 34 channels forward all the way up to junction 11 for Winchester starts now in Stoke the a 3 to 23 haven t road i Reports of an accident there between Victoria Road and door Lane There are huge now forming on the approach down different going to keep on it in Bishops don t now use Stockport road in both directions close for some imaginary repairs that s between Sedgwick road and Colchester Ave There are local diversions for the bosses to fair via Fair Oaks Road in Gulfport the a 32 Gosport road north bar not much busier much busier than usual for this time of day that s between Rona road all the way to Geoffrey Crescent and it doesn t say says it between 5 to 10 minutes to your journey there is the a 31 in Ringwood NY poor hill one lane blocked there because of a breakdown that s between the a 33 a for the actually Heath one of all the way to new l. Radio show we ve got sick Calvert s And we re back among them along to get those questions as part of the kitchen garden on b.b.c. Radio sound I m a backpack I m joined this afternoon by Pip n.z. Your gardening ex-pat until 1 o clock before the travel we were identifying a tree for many that she spotted it to fail which you know identifies an as an American whole thought on many has been back in touch because you asked the question about whether I had any thought she said it doesn t have any thorns doesn t make a difference you know enough the program could just be because it s more mature but if no aunt It could just be unusual for r.t. If the person is so it s possible it could be something at Prince Veritas there s a variety to wind King which could be. I think it s more likely still to be printed fairly I think it s the most likely for tree of that I do sticking with Ok Great thank you let s head back to the phone lines if you got a question for pick this afternoon the numbers as always I know you know me. But there is the off chance that you could be a new listener and you ve just stumbled across the kitchen garden the softening goddess questions so the numbers 080-810-3800 Ok let s have to pull Judy s waiting on the line with a question about an Israeli Hello. My name. And I think people am I haven t but they are well established well and stayed in the back of it pretty heads it s got a lot of lie in in the front and sun when the sun shines but it is still looking very. Relieved family is a good many parts on it at all and it s still looking around some of the leaves are brown and yellow are just wondering if it s still worth it could I feed it now at all or is it not the right time. Is it likely to. Have it flowered for to summer now to spring summer. So is this an evergreen as I say there yes it s here it s now I thought it probably was. I haven t i would you say some of you now are on telly but honest at the moment it s been well looked after otherwise it had plenty of water in the summer when you know if it hasn t rained out all today it s been said occasionally so I just can t understand why it looks so. Good perfect hedge doing what s behind it now is yeah. I can say it s Ok it s not looking sort of bit skinny or anything it looks quite well lots of fairly Jonna Oh it s a bit screwy there a bit a bit naff I would say yes another in the lawn chairs trees around the same area. For the a large probably a large hydrangea. The side was badly on one side and a hydrangea the other side and we have a lot of big trees in the garden and quite a lot of shade. Yeah I think there I think all of those things you just mentioned are its problem so the big trees give it a basic problem start with because they ll be taking the core of the moisture from most things but then the hydrangea is a greedy for moisture. It s just plain greedy it s one of those things that sir takes whatever is there it ll grow quite poor soil but if you give it good saw that grows and it grows a lot so I think it s just struggling as is the privet hedge to get an enough sort of food it was interesting I was really I asked about the private see where the prove it was the thing causing the problem and it s obviously not because that s not thriving and usually privet will will survive in most conditions so I think that all the things around it a stealing the food from it so I think what I d want to do with this and it s it s a bit of a bind so if you will think Oh God I don t really want to be doing that but actually I would want in the spring to get some fire fertilizer on there so you want to mix up a liquid fade and sweat Oh yeah sort of like a tomato food or something like that spray all over the leaves of the plant on a regular basis because of the spray on to the leaf you know the plant is getting it whereas a right around a real round it the strongest roots round it will get it rather than the plant you want it to go to certain means you can feed specifically that plant and that makes sense in terms of the actual lack of bards because what s probably happening is the others are taking all the moisture as well which isn t helping so with as they as in particular and rhododendrons if they get dry in late summer any tiny sort of bugs that may have started to form will drop so they ll lose them at that stage anyway even if then you know you might not be able to see them but they will lose them so I think it s really case of a I get some phobia feed on to these so they re a bit tougher. Unable to deal with the other plants and I think not particularly I think it s called Point like to mark up or to make sure it s on the plant and. Plant it right directly like water or directly on to the if you ve got it if you ve got a sprayer that you haven t use for weed killer there are. Yeah that s a nice little hands right not the little ones you have to sort of pump with your hand every time you get a small pump sprayer which does about 2 liters or something like that they re very handy so you can spray over the long run I think you could do You had just well then yeah. Thank you very much for your question Julie and what time are you doing that pit in the spring so I don t do it now wait till the spring I tell things start just start shooting to it then so it s a little bit of a tonic Tony well it s like flying I suspect for this is lying around you are Ok I right before we check on the weather let s speak to Marianne she s got a question for you about Amaryllis Hello Marianne. No Hi How can we have like I was given a release about a month ago and hearing about you know. 2 inches at the moment but it s really annoying because I got loads of those little tiny tiny little black flies on it yeah I think it came but a little bag of salt which I used and then I took it up in my soil in my bag. Ok I suspect this might be a sign that your compost stain is a little bit too moist. They generally hang around when they re sitting there s a a damp compost without enough root growth in it so if the roots on the em are in a sudden really got going they d be taking all the extra moisture away and there be nothing for the flies to hang around for but when you ve just sort of either just planted or just gotten Amaryllis like that actually the root growth isn t fully in their night. I think that might be the problem so I would reduce the watering a little bit at this stage it also helps the bulb to withhold water until you see the flower bud coming up so you ll see bad starting to come if there round on the top it s a leaf if the pointy it s actually a bad so you need that bad to be up and out of the the neck of the bowl before you really start watering. Well I haven t actually water that much I ve been told treating it a bit like orchid you know you know every week or so yeah you know you really doesn t need anything until that until that body s out of out of the neck of the ball. So that s alright thanks Mariam enjoy you go straight even mean I know if he means about an orchid is always a temptation to get a little bit of water because you think it s going to need it but it s just trying to hold back yeah yeah yeah particularly with the Amaryllis because he could leave the bulb there no water is tall and it will come up it will flower do everything because everything it needs is in the ball but sell Ok it s just that temptation to water Yeah I think it s going to need to stay away from the water Ok in just a moment we re check and see what the weather is going to install You really don t one eye for the next few days. This is tomorrow morning the very special calendar sharing real life stories and hoping to inspire others if you missed out on tickets or bring your taste back carol service. Seen radio so join the nation s favorite conversation go online to b.b.c. Dot u.k. Slash weather watch and. I don t like to give you bad news like that and I know it s not a very pretty picture to paint for the by the so let s cheer ourselves up with some gardening happiness Let s help you have a look at all the way to move away from the weather yes it s going to be wet it s going to be windy which I don t want to be on Thursday because I m off to the Olive why. But the passenger car ferry could probably fall not if it s windy you know they re. Being there I ve done that before but it s no escape we re distributing more guests that are Cafe Clarence campaign which is what we ve been doing collecting gifts for unpaid Karras across Hampshire Dorset and the Isle of Wight and taking them to Christmas coffee mornings Christmas lunch is organized by the various care organizations so we re off to carries on of white on Thursday so I m hoping it ll be a calm crossing all out of jail a short while but me no doubt you obviously don t care about anybody else just me on the ferry thanks very much so right let s see if we can help you in your garden in the meantime you ve got about 25 minutes left if you ve got to get a question to pick the numbers always Oh wait wait 103800 you can text so I ve just been slightly distracted by Kevin James kissing Lena in the OPs air just a nice Christmassy kiss so I feel bit free to share it about Cath when I get a kiss when he sees me I want someone out you can text a one trouble 3 star single message was silent and there s the email address the kitchen garden at b.b.c. To u.k. It s a showbizzy kind of. Let s see if we can help Brenda when they come fast of all good afternoon Brenda how we hear oh I hope so Ok we ll try Brenda Fisher up yeah right that resolution yellow flowers on through the summer might a couple of times when I bought it was quite small and I understand it really just pruning a lot of the moment the flowers on it a day now and it s getting a little bit Laiki and I m just wondering if I can just take it down or take those stage page of something it would it be a genius Well yes could be yes that would make sense yes oh which you know when they are trying to getting about like that makes sense yeah yeah I probably do. Who chased a god and a car boot sale probably 3 or 4 years ago and it has been absolutely beautiful you know and I just was looking at it the other day and also I don t know am I supposed to trim this down. Yes Well I m glad you could ask Brenda that s what we re here for. Now quick question does it have very long straight stare or is it sort of look more sort of almost prickly No no no no more more long straight. And late little leaves little green leaves all the way down the stem and then that s literally a low flow bushy is it like a little piece shaped flat piece kind of thing yes yes it s a $27.00 if you look at it from the road it is very bright you know when it is blooming it s very bright you can see very bright yellow I think I think this is probably Genest a poor log I think if I knew it was a g. Yeah I know that sounds right has lovely scented rich yellow flowers on long sort of it s like a broom so it s kind of it s related to a broom so as these lovely long stems on it now really it wants to be pretty and as soon as it s finish my ring so it s kind of I be reluctant to do it now because I think you re going to remove the flower for next spring yeah yeah I probably wouldn t do it now now the bad news is that Eunice Topola is a relatively short lived shrub So if you get sort of 8 to 10 years out of it you re doing really well yeah yeah yeah yeah so I think I d want to get again well Mrs finished flowering get in there imprinted quite hard back I d probably take it back but at least Hall Yeah and encourage it to put small growth out from the base It may look a little bit sad Initially I get some food on it the minute you done it because it wants to be given a sort of knowledge to get back straight back out and grow and then you should have flower again for next year don t worry if next year sort of once you ve cut back but the year after that is a little bit light on flower because it s had a bit of a shock Yeah yeah the other one. Or you could tackle if you re worried about that is to take maybe a 3rd of the branches back hard and leave the other 2 thirds and then do the next the next year but if it s getting too big for your spice I think you re better off going for all trim you know back in one go yes I did and it will be a bit do or die on I I think it will either come back well and do really well or you might struggle with a little bit yeah it s a bit of a chance there yeah you know well as I say it must ve been 3 years ago. You know so yeah but it should be all right because it s not too it s not too old that s the good thing in its favor 3 years old you re pretty much I think you ll be Ok with that and of course with this trip. Just to see if I couldn t remember didn t I and. Yeah I m going to do that now you know what I mean I want to want to talk oh good job well done a grinder you gotta go now wait till 1300 yeah yeah yeah then you got football after 1 o clock or after one so you can take a little bit off now if you need to stop it rocking around but the main pretty rare til after it s flowered Yeah yeah yeah Ok Thanks so so I know I know next year yeah Ok thanks Rhonda Take care thanks a question Sheria bye bye whilst you will hear from pick Bentley flowers can we do a little festive recap I know the as we talked about Christmas trees which we might do a bit of a recap because I know this weekend is a really busy weekend in terms of people going out and they re really on trail a weekend if you are wanting to have a go at doing some fly arrangements home my own lots of people make their own wreaths and you do kind of you research workshops and stuff in terms of soaking there were the Oasis 1st of all is that what people are still using as a medium to put their flowers into for me and also how long should you soak for and what should you soak it in Ok so that s the question is a little bit sort of fluid at the moment I think people are coming to the conclusion. This isn t the best of things for the planet there s pros and cons it s made from a waste material from the petrol in industry so in a way it s being something that will go to waste but equally the might curb plastics that may be loosed into the environment from it or a negative so yes it s still very much used. Or is this is the name we use it s actually the name with the main brand is actually floral foam so there s lots of different brands of it yeah but soaking it s really easy into a bucket that s deep enough for the the ice that you have so I will keep calling it that so we all know what you mean by calm yeah yeah you want it to be deep enough for it to be able to go right under the water soak it in water with some flower food in it because then you re giving some extra goodness to the things that you cart it will keep them fresher it stops bacteria growing gives them the right ph keeps them well fed so it does make a difference if you do that things last longer whether. Soaking should only take just over a minute yet you literally hot in your ice on top and let it sink down by itself yeah don t push it under the water don t splash water on it just let it sink but itself and once it s sunk that it doesn t need to stand any longer so it literally is I think it s a minute and a quarter or something like that and now to let it drain and then use it Ok And then once you ve created your wonderful range should you keep topping out with all yes yeah thank you you really do need to because it will dry out so you want to keep spreading of water on a regular basis one of the things you can do if you re in the side so maybe you ve made the table Center think about using some ice cubes to pop 2 or 3 ice cubes into the middle of the display and they just slowly melt down so you don t have water spilling all over the table just let the melt turn gently that s a great iting so useful tip Yass So given that we might all be moving away at some point in the future from Floral Vo what else is there that people are using instead. That you know you ve got to have 3 options so there s the traditional option which is a must 3 so you use a copper frames as a wire frame bind false onto it so nice moist small so play and then you actually bind your your leaves and your berries and everything you re going to Tom with some ordinary Why are so it s a what they call a must sing wire so it s a straight steel wire it will actually rust down and disappear in in a compost bin so it disappears so you know the whole gang can go in or you can use a straw based ring they re ready made so it s just straw packed in nice and tightly give it a good site before you use it so it s got some moisture in it because that s what you want whatever is making the core to have a bit of moisture if you can or the other thing that you can use is if you ve done a bit of trimming in the garden you cut back you know Clematis all your farin Yeah just wind it round and round itself to make yourself a circular Wraith base and you can use that as your frame bind a bit of moss on to head then your forgetting isn t quite how to come by the way you do you have to buy in from a specialist supplier how much most of you got in your lawn I don t know how do I just think I know there s enough I suppose if there s enough to make your 8th get out there with this well this is a high usage even now that this is the right key for that it s just the same kind of months it s absolutely and it s not going to keep it moist to the same extent the floor well yeah they do they work very similarly so before floral foam Yeah everyone used most of the walls the floral foam of it stayed in effect Ok all the tributes they all used to be made on a moss base base and people are going back to it now gosh they re rethinking how we do stuff it s gone full circle absolutely interesting and let s recap very quickly on Christmas Tree people missed it when we did a couple of weeks ago if you re going out today you re buying a Christmas tree what you need to do in terms of keeping it indoors in keeping with its needles on for yoga the key thing. Thing is not to make it too hot there are now told plant they want to be on the cool side they don t want to be near a fire radiator the back of the t.v. Anything that gives off heat is going to make it last less time yeah if you buy one of the normal spruce the Norway spruce the old traditional tree basically makes the leaves on it will fall off anyway that s what it does spend most of January Hoovering it out of carpet you can tell I m not a huge fan of the real change they are a very traditional thing but I don t think they do what we want in this day and age what most people buy will be a north to man which is a dark green foliage tree holds its foliage really well even when it s suffering a bit still hangs onto it and it s a softer firelit it also gives you more open trace it tends to have a layer of a city like horizontal layer of branches then a bit of a gap then another layer which is lovely if you like lots decorations because your decorations then hang down in between and it s it s kind of a very European thing the Americans have these big heavy trays and they put all the decorations on the outside as Europeans tend to have more in the center of an already very interesting yeah women will stylish almost as fact you know I know you ve seen my tray because I ve shown you some photos of I m all European you are actually you know you were treated like a bit Scandinavian overnight a.s.e. Out good and I utensil past normal sitting for a person I m a vintage tinsel person so I like the old tinsel which is a little bit lighter and a bit softer it had a sort of cotton center to it so it hangs better it s a bit more delicate whereas the modern tinsel fairy have a I m bold yes you re right quite again but American solid all over everything I think after all yet when it kind of takes over the tree a bit earlier on Issue man it s just a little bit heavy maybe small houses we have it suits us more to have a more delicate look to a train bulbul I m like a bull gull than a bit of there and then very quickly when you. Get the tree home you supposed to saw the bottom off on you yes so lots of people trying to get the bottom of the tree sawn off at the garden center or yeah wherever they re getting their tree from home and put it straight into water so even if you re not putting it in the house cut it off put it into a bucket of water and keep that topped up for all the time so think of it as a bunch of flowers you wouldn t buy a bunch of flowers and leave them with no water but you know where your tree is a very expensive bunch of flowers Yeah so actually you cut the bottom off when you get home straight into the water it will take up some extra water and when you re choosing choose the heaviest tray most water already in it better keep it in a bucket of water indoors if you buy a Christmas tree stand the house or a well in it for the whole life not on the best ones now the best Christmas tree holders are the ones that you look at and think that ll never hold my tree out right there like a big bowl and it has a sort of mechanic unit that literally just has 4 prongs Yeah and you don t have any of this growing in you literally just put it in a prongs hold the branches imply Yes Ok And it has a big well of water in the bottom and they re really really go how do you know you could get there you see and you get about soaking the tree Yeah so not go to water indoor Yeah no in the next year Ok thank you for that just might be useful if you re going out by a tree this afternoon could be if you re getting a real tree this year Ok let s head back to the phone lines are we ve got June on the line in charmless falls Good afternoon June Good afternoon Rebecca hello how can we help Jane what s your question for Pip Well just to quickly I want to mentor on my littlest. Solent Why not yes now I ve got what I call a kitchen cooking yeah. And I ve been nasty feeling so good with words but don t look terribly happy Ok what can I do Ok will respond is all about how drawing the atmosphere. Areas which makes sense if it s indoors we ve all got the heating on at the moment so the best thing you can actually do rather than trying to spray is actually get a little dish underneath it with a bit of gravel and lots of water in it and stand it on top of the gravel because it has it s outside in the 4. A great container by the front door Ok so it s probably just a bit on the dry side at the moment I suspect because it s near the building they don t get as much water as he think they do so again I still think opting the watering on it will help it hugely Ok And then what to do take off the leaves wait for fresh to grow or sometimes it gets white lives Well yeah it s one of those difficult ones isn t it because you want to use it so you don t want to use any kind of insecticide that has any kind of sort of stays on the plant still you can look for one that is suitable for bags or for 5th edge Bowls have a look for something that s a vegetable one that will actually deal with the insects you re looking at and it will have a what they call a cropping period usually 7 days or so you can spray and then 7 days later you can pick it again and the reason they work is because they usually work on contact so it means you have to spray all around the plants so not just sort of over the top you ve got to get in and through or around the middle and up around the sort of under the leaves and where the least join the main stem so the more you can spray all around the better it will work but thank you so much what a bee if I watch the leaves of will they be safe to you I wouldn t use them before the period they say so if it says 7 days leave it 7 days before I get the spray Now if you get the spray now and it says 7 days use it and then leave 7 days before you actually eat it again yet but. But can I use it now before I spray it. Yes Yeah absolutely that will be fine just give it a wash off it s sort of some extra protein on a. And I can I just really really quickly. Believe we re going black What s wrong. Has it got cold Well the lounge is not heated. I think it might have got a little bit too cold it s actually sort of quite a tropical plan we don t think of it as that is tropical So I think that s got a little bit cold brew in somewhere a little bit warmer. And. Yeah and I think you ll find it ll come back through quite happily. Thank you Ok All right Jeanne thanks for your question Sherry above I have a good afternoon that we ve had this is a text in from Eric in new bill Milton has hired back and we re going to Daphne shrub it must be at least 10 years old it s looking very straggly Is it time to renew it now what s the life expectancy for a definite Pip Rush Well it depends whether it s awfully Oh Doro which is the norm so why don t bring more on for which the life expectancy is about 15 years Ok maximum and that I suspect it s more likely to be that and they do tend to get straggly once they start getting stronger you want to be the taking cuttings or finding a new one to plant because there s no there s no going back you can prune all you like they were going above and beyond back Ok if it s definitely Jacqueline Postell which is a little upright one which is just beginning it will come in to fly around about Christmas New Year Yeah so if it s that one yes you can prune that back and I actually do mind sort of by the front door and I have to because although it s not print shop it gets quite wide after time so I actually cut mine quite hard back so that that won t morea So if it s not right cut it back if it s short get ready for a new one Ok so it s a case of Eric identifying which Daphne he has and then working out what he s going to do you with a. Yes Ok And if you re going to take. Door one would be a time to do that. Kind of want to you could have a go in the spring but really it will be better sort of June July time July August time I don t know if set me right cutting on that they re not the easiest thing having said that someone will always bring up and say oh I got to the really there s no way someone. Like that Ok not the easiest of things might be a spot of new buying Yeah Ok it s 5 to one let s check on the roads for you. B.c. You radio silence and how s it looking out there staving good news bad news it s always the banks it s a bit of both Ok. I was looking for some good news but I think I ll save it for the next bill in the m. 3 North Barnard that remains crawling in both directions part of me remains calling northbound that s between junction 13 for channels for all the way to Winchester suburbs not obviously helped by the ongoing road works in the area which is slowing things down massively in you want to know he ll never broken down car has a blocked one lane there that s between and the a 338 all the way to new lane is very heavy they re adding 15 minutes onto your journey Thank you very much to Sandy for calling in and letting me know I m in Bishop s don t know stock Park Road in both directions close for some Americans who repairs that s between Cedric road and Colchester Ave There are lots of diversions for public transport in place via fair Oak Road onto the trains now on the Island Line a faulty train sees a massively reduced service again today between right Peterhead and Shanklin it s an hourly service leaving Shanklin 18 past the hour ahead at $49.00 past the hour the strike action on South Western Railway continues today with the replacement buses running between Eastley in Portsmouth Harbor but also between so I was in central harbor and there s the more replacement buses running between Bournemouth and Poole engineering work means replacement buses on Southern services today between site Hampton central haven t and if you are in if you re heading to the. Christmas parade and where I am Be aware that there is road closures in place from round about 3 o clock this afternoon including North Street and West Street if you have seen anything on the roads I haven t mentioned they give me a call more than 30 minutes. Ok only a couple of minutes left to try and squeeze in as many gardening questions we can off the news at 1 o clock Pip is going to stay here and pick up plan to the wake and we re only on with the kitchen garden is only on until half past 1 this afternoon because after half past 1 Saints are playing away to Newcastle s we ve got all the build up and then overcome a tree with Adam Blackmore and the team from 2 o clock so in the closing stages of Gardner s questions we got a question from Angela in Lyn tast who says I ve heard that now s a good time to plant bad roses and it s a good thing to do because apparently it s a cheaper by of buying them is this right and if so how should I prepare the ground before planting Yeah absolutely I mean this is the natural time to plant trees and shrubs Ok when we would have for years we would have done all our planting now and early in the spring because we didn t have plants growing containers that only really came in in the 1960 s. Yeah so it s perfect time to buy yes she s quite right you get a better value because they re cheaper Yes So if you don t have to pop the mop and you can transport lots Maureen it actually works much better so definitely Barrett Rose. K. Thing is the more preparation you can do the better so Dick down in the bed double ticket make sure you have got in now if any of you look at me I am going don t know Doug thinking yes I m sure you know he doesn t know what double taking is you take out one of those weights debt the out of soil transport it to the other end of the bed and then you go down in you take the 2nd spades depth and then you move move on to the next piece a saw a new take that 1st spade step and put it where the 1st one came out of Ok so you re constantly rotating basically you re breaking out the bottom of the planting place with your 2nd bit of digging the 1st base giving a really good dig over to the top so unique allows you to get a lovely bit for roots to go right the way down Ok put some of this the planting stuff roses there s a there s a little oh my brain s on my career I saw my career as a very good you say I m getting old now I m learning from the impact my career as a funny guy you dust it on the roof so it s really important these fungal I that they go directly onto the roots because that s how they work when they touch the roots if you mix it in with the soul there get to it eventually but not so quickly and this makes makes the plant got quicker and better so poppy plants and you can plant as long as it s not frozen Yeah so so long as the ground not frozen Poppea Ponce in and get it let them get in and settled paddle to really well and it saves you a bit of money as well stayed out because after news you re going to choose your plant to the week. And you ll smile and speak. We are. The sound of. The news and one from b.b.c. Radio silence I m Clare Carson the head of Southampton s Medina mosque Saleem Hussein has added his voice to those calling for the safety on the streets after last week s London Bridge stabbing speaking on b.b.c. Radio silence cleared up the small. In the head Eman condemned the attack just sinking how individuals can do such disgusting things it makes me feel quite disavow discussed that we shouldn t have to tolerate violence and the sort of criminal activities in any shape or form whatsoever regardless if someone is a Muslim non Muslim if someone. Big small it doesn t make any difference at all everyone should feel safe walking out on the streets regardless of what time it is or where we are tributes have been paid to Abbey Road the early years work of my humble who died in a car crash on Thursday night the 18 year old was killed when a silver toy to collided with a tree on school lane just before 9 o clock at night Abbey was described as a breath of fresh air and one who brought joy to every life she touched. And when just a man is hoping to become a world record holder today when he attempts to push a wheelchair will stranding a marathon in less than 3 hours Marcus green is teamed up with friend and former colleague Phil Russell for the challenge he was diagnosed with most in your own disease in 2016 as Marcus explains breaking world records isn t unfamiliar territory for the path I ve been training up to 2223 miles so you always leave a cup or show you don t you sort of want to keep powder dry cleaner So the big cage gets out and actually we have a current Guinness World Record for the Solstice hall as well which we set back in step or to share a yellow bowling of wind comes into.
