RUSTENBURG, March 5 (ANA) - The extradition hearing against self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, is expected to begin in the Lilongwe Magistrate's Court in Malawi on Monday.
The charismatic preacher and his wife are wanted in South Africa on fraud and money-laundering charges related to an investment scheme valued at about US$7 million.
The couple were arrested in South Africa, but after being granted bail they fled to Malawi, claiming they were not safe in South Africa.
As part of their bail conditions in South Africa they were only allowed to travel within Gauteng and North West provinces until the case had been finalised.

Mchacha, Vuwa Kaunda and Muhara's case committed to High Court

Senior Resident Magistrate Shyreen Yona Chirwa, has committed to the High Court the land case involving former cabinet minister Charles Mchacha, former Secretary to the President and Cabinet Lloyd Muhara, former Minister of Lands Symon Vuwa Kaunda and Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Bright Kumwembe.
Chirwa has, however, turned down an application by the state to have the accused’s bail conditions restored after they were suspended by Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba last month.
The four are being suspected to have played different roles in the alleged illegal land inquisition by Mchacha. The land, at Kanjedza in Blantyre, belonged to the Department of Forestry.

Lawyer Chancy Gondwe Asks Court to Dismiss Proceedings Involving Mchacha, Others

Lawyer, Chancy Gondwe has asked Lilongwe Magistrate Court to dismiss theÂ current proceedings saying the application by state to commit the case to High Court is misleading.
But the state has dismissed Gondwe’s arguments saying Reyneck Matemba’s contract was on month to month bases and it expired on January 31 and not December 31 as put by Gondwe.
The State further says the defendants team did not do enough research and has wasted Court’s time by telling it that ACB has no acting Director General saying ACB has acting DG.
Further, the state insists the matter was referred procedurally.

Court To Continue Hearing Case Against Mchacha, Three Others

The case in which four senior officials from the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are answering, is expected to continue today at Lilongwe Magistrate Court.
The four, former Cabinet Ministers Charles Mchacha and Symon Vuwa Kaunda, former secretary to the office of president and cabinet Lloyd Muhara and former principle secretary for the Ministry of Defence Bright Kumwembe were arrested last year in connection with alleged illegal acquisition of government land.
Last month, Principal resident magistrate Viva Nyimba quashed their corruption charges and softened bail conditions in case on land acquisition in Blantyre.
However, since there was no consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the charges which they were answering under Corrupt Practices Act fell out.

Vuwa Kaunda: Facing charges
The Lilongwe Magistrate Court is continuing hearing a case against Mchacha, Symon Vuwa Kaunda and two others.
Last month , Principal resident magistrate Viva Nyimba quashed their corruption charges and softened bail conditions in case on land acquisition in Blantyre.
The other accused person is Bright Kumwembe, the Principal Secretary for Defence.
They were all arrested last year in connection with alleged illegal acquisition of government land by Mchacha.
