Varanasi: The court of the district judge Sanjeev Kumar Pandey on Friday heard cases related to Gyanvapi and fixed May 3 as the date for further heari.
A plaintiff in one of the Gyanvapi-related cases filed an application seeking a ban on gatherings of Muslims above Gyanvapi's southern cellar (Vyas Peeth) to prevent further damage to the weak roof. Another plaintiff filed a plea to remove barricades around the Gyanvapi mosque for regular worship. Next hearing scheduled on March 19, 2024.
Divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma refuted the lawyer’s claim that entry of devotees was also allowed inside the Gyanvapi southern cellar following the court order. The commissioner stated that only the priest assigned by Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust is allowed to perform rituals in the southern cellar.
