No arrest from Lake Taupō arsons but community has moved on
She reiterated a call for anyone with information that might assist to get in touch. Five properties were damaged by the series of intentionally lit fires in Tauranga Taupō, Waitetoko and Hatepe in the early hours of January 12 last year with a sixth suspicious fire on January 26. Two houses were completely destroyed in the first arsons and particularly concerning in the case of a Hatepe house, a police statement said, was that a family was asleep at the address when it was set alight.
