Ken Furphy talks tactics with Stewart Scullion Prior to Graham Taylor’s golden era at Vicarage Road, only one man had led Watford into the second tier of the Football League in the club’s history. Ken Furphy moved to Vicarage Road in the 1964/65 season and as a right-back who made more than 500 appearances in his career, he remained in a player-manager role for almost four years. Having hung up his boots though, he was to guide Watford to the Division Three title in 1969 and into the second tier for the first time in the club’s near 90-year history.
