In my experience home insurance will only cover up to £2k in a garage. And they will have nothing to do with things they don't understand, ie, any kind of machine tool. If they can't tick a box on a screen they can't cope. I have a mate who swore blind that he was covered by the household insurance as organised by the wife; turns out he wasn't, didn't have any cover at all. I use Walter Midgley; not cheap, but I've searched and there simply isn't anyone else who covers machine tools and model engineering items.
