A proposed compromise to slash the city’s contribution to Medicare Part B premiums in half for existing employees and to only eliminate it completely for future hires was insufficient to end the ongoing debate over the potential change.
The resolution included on the special meeting agenda released on Friday would eliminate the city’s $66.60 per month per person contribution effective June 30. Future retirees would therefore be responsible for the full Medicare Part B premium, which is set at $174.70 this year.
