"Isotopic time-series (δ13C and δ18O) obtained fr" by Claudio Garbelli, Lucia Angiolini et al.

In this paper, we develop a robust palaeo-proxy technique for inferring seasonal fluctuations in Phanerozoic seawater temperature. Specifically, we report δ13C and δ18O values across the columnar layer (inner shell) of Permian brachiopods, including five genera of the Order Spiriferida (Ingellarella, Martinia, Permophricodothyris, Cartorhium, and Trigonotreta) and two genera of the Order Athyridida (Araxathyris and Comelicania). These brachiopod specimens are inferred to have inhabited varied palaeo-depths, based on facies analysis, and were collected from low, middle and high palaeolatitudes. To obtain high-resolution ontogenetic isotopic time-series, a handheld microdrill was used to collect low-magnesium calcite samples along the longitudinal axis of the mid-valve for each specimen. Intrageneric and intergeneric comparison of statistics (mean values, variance, and range) reveals that δ18O values are consistent within and between genera although δ13C values are more variable. "Reassessing the chronostratigraphy and tempo of climate change in the " by G. R. Shi, Allen P. Nutman et al.

The Permian of the southern Sydney Basin (Australia) comprises both marine and non-marine sedimentary sequences with evidence of glacial deposition and syndepositional magmatism represented by tuffs, lava flows and hypabyssal intrusions. This succession has been well-studied in lithostratigraphy and sedimentology, but the Lower-Middle Permian chronostratigraphy remains poorly constrained due to a lack of radiometric isotope ages and strong faunal endemism. In this study, we report the first suite of reconnaissance U–Pb zircon ages from this succession, comprising two Wandrawandian Siltstone (WS) tuffs (Green Point tuff 272.6 ± 6.5 Ma population, Callala Bay tuff ≥290 Ma Permian populations) and magmatic zircon ages from three discrete syndepositional intrusions: the Termeil Complex intruding the Snapper Point Formation dated 278.9 ± 3.7 Ma (95% confidence), the Milton Complex intruding the Snapper Point Formation and likely the WS dated 275.5 ± 4.3 Ma, and a dyke/sill at Kinghor ....

Traveller Letters: This Australian capital seems to hate visitors

DEVIL OF A TIME
Hobart doesn t like tourists. We flew into Hobart on Sunday, December 27 for eight days. The next day, we went to the tourist information centre. Closed. It stayed closed all week. Tourists were not welcome. We found out about Hobart attractions on the hop on hop off bus. Fortunately, our hotel guided us to a day tour to Port Arthur. Our second, not welcome was a café we went to for breakfast. An enquiry, are you open Saturday? was answered with a blistering snarl, I have to have a day off sometime. We did not return there. ....
