TRIBUTES have been paid to a former mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett who raised tens of  thousands of pounds for The Fire Fighters Charity. Chris Wannell, who died aged 79 on Monday after a short illness, was praised for his “unfailing support” for charitable causes and his commitment to the community. Today, flags are being flown at half mast at fire stations across Dorset and Wiltshire as a mark of respect for the former fireman. A CHIMNEY fire in Wigton has prompted firefighters to remind people to get their chimneys swept. The Crew from Wigton Station were called to action on Monday morning after they had a report of a fire in a home on West Street. When Firefighters arrived they found a chimney fire. a spokesman for the crew said: "At 11.30am the fire crew was called to a chimney fire. "They used chimney gear and a thermal image camera to extinguish the fire. "We would like to remind everyone to get their chimneys swept and cleaned regularly, especially now we are at home more often."

The fire station’s float displayed in Yate Shopping Centre FIREFIGHTERS have raised over £1,000 with their Christmas Float in Yate Shopping centre. The crew from Yate Fire station had to adapt their usual fundraising efforts and instead restored their famous Christmas Sleigh which was displayed in the shopping centre for December. The firefighters usually fundraise by running a number of charity car washes, but unfortunately due to the pandemic, were not able to.
