Today, the European Commission published its Wind Power Action Plan and Communication on offshore renewable energy. The plan contains a number of good initiatives, such as the inclusion of criteria in wind auctions other than just the cost, a focus on skills and more efficient and transparent permitting processes, and better financing through the innovation fund. Unfortunately a lack of attention to reskilling fossil fuel workers and ongoing delays in the Commission guidance on how to accelerate permitting issues mean we still face some headwinds.
