Approximately 30 people in 15 canoes arrived at the boat launch along River Street today, making it the first stop along the Sturgeon Lake First Nation’s Youth Canoe Brigade down the North Saskatchewan River. The Sturgeon Lake First Nation is preparing to put on a multi-day youth canoe tour down the North Saskatchewan River to teach kids historical aspects of their ancestry. Beginning on Monday, the youth canoe brigade will begin their journey from the Shell River bridge and will row two hours to Prince Albert. Once they arrive in P.A., they will hear speeches from Mayor Greg Dionne and Sturgeon Lake First Nation Chief Greg Ermine and hear about the historical significance of the trip.
