'A great day for us'

MOSES LAKE — After a fundraising campaign that persisted – and was successful – in the teeth of a global pandemic, a new facility to provide radiation treatment for cancer patients in Moses Lake will have its grand opening Saturday. The open house for the Confluence Health Radiation Oncology Center will be from 10 a.m. to noon at 905 E. Hill Ave.

The new treatment center is a joint project of the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, Confluence Health and the Confluence Health Foundation. The ceremony will begin at 10:15, and representatives from all three groups will be cutting the ribbon at about 10:30 a.m.

“It means so much to our community,” said foundation director Angel Ledesma at the groundbreaking ceremony in August 2022.

Registration for Give NCW Turkey Trot now open

WENATCHEE — Registration has opened for the Give NCW Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day in Wenatchee, according to an announcement from the Community Foundation of NCW.

Give NCW Turkey Trot will feature timed 5K and 10K runs, as well as an untimed free 1K kids run that will start and finish on the Apple Capital Loop Trail adjacent to Pybus Public Market, the announcement said. All three distances are open to walkers, too. The first 750 people who sign up for the 5K and 10K are guaranteed a commemorative winter beanie hat.

The event will officially kick off the Community Foundation’s annual Give NCW fundraising campaign for nonprofit organizations in North Central Washington, the announcement said.

Wenatchee doctor charged with computer intrusion, witness tampering in ongoing domestic violence case

NCWLIFE
WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee physician faces charges of domestic violence and felony counts including witness tampering and computer trespass, after allegedly abusing his spouse and unlawfully using Confluence Health computer systems to access her private medical information.
Dr. Tyler Howard Buckley, 37, was summoned to Chelan County Superior Court Tuesday on a charge of first-degree computer trespass. It’s the third felony charge leveled against the oncologist since his initial arrest in February, when his wife told Wenatchee police he had grabbed her, shoved her, and injured her arms as part of an ongoing pattern of physical abuse.
The latest charge of computer trespass alleges that Buckley used his credentials as a healthcare provider to access his wife’s private medical records through computer systems at Confluence Health, where the couple both worked. Police said Confluence Health administrators reached out in April to the Chelan County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, after they became aware of the alleged breach.
