Ballyshannon Tommy, which sold for €3,200.
The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society hosted the second of the May sales this weekend, with the Angus breed making up most of the lots present.
Strong pedigree and commercial demand meant a few super prices were achieved, along with an excellent clearance rate.
In total, 35 of the 39 Angus bulls on offer sold to average just shy of €2,450.

Leading the prices with a top call of €6,000 was the very first bull into the ring, Bunlahy Sean Dubh ET.

The Irish Angus Munster Branch hosted its premier and first 2021 sale in Kilmallock Mart last Saturday, with average price and clearance rate on par with the 2019 sale.
While the clearance rate was on par, it must be noted that the number of bulls presented for sale was back substantially, so the number that traded hands on the day was back by 10 on 2019 levels.

Multi-breed pedigree sale in Carrick-on-Shannon topped at €4,650

February 15, 2021 6:00 pm
With the 2021 breeding season soon getting into motion, one of the first pedigree bull sales of the year took place in the showgrounds of Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, February 13.
As it was the first multi-breed sale of the sale hosted by the Midlands and Western Livestock Improvement Society, it saw mainly Angus and Charolais breeds on offer with a sprinkling of Hereford, Limousin and Shorthorn breeds also.
Overall, some high prices were recorded but the trade was challenging as only half the bulls on offer found new homes.
The sale was not helped by the snowy weather conditions and no customer presence at ringside to contest in the bidding. Some farmers are also holding on until the spring progresses further before they begin sourcing their bulls.

The Irish Angus Cattle Society hosted its annual elite sale in Carrick-on-Shannon over the weekend. This was the 13th year of the sale and proved to be one of the best yet, with a record price and average rising to the highest seen in five years. Clearance rates for both bulls and heifers rose to the highest level since 2016, an impressive stat given the catalogue entry has increased substantially since then.
The general sentiment from both breeders and organisers was that the sale was a great success. It must also be noted that the overall standard of bulls offered for sale over the weekend was well up on previous years.

Cavan breeder scores at Angus Elite sale with €8,600 for bull

A final bid of €8,600 from a young livestock breeder at the ringside secured the much-admired price topping bull at the Irish Angus Cattle Society Elite Sale at the Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday.
Fifteen-month-old Ernehill Samson, bred by Francis and Noel Fitzpatrick, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan received a flurry of bids from both the restricted ringside attendance and online breeders before auctioneer Francis McGowan knocked him down to his new home in the mid-west.
The bull was bred by the sire Ballymagrine Wonder, a son of Bohey Jasper, and out of the home bred dam Ernehill Niamh and carries five stars all the way for docility, carcase weight and conformation.
