Report highlights the heritage opportunities of Waterford and Wexford on the Estuary

A new report titled ‘The Maritime Heritage of Waterford Estuary’ which has been commissioned by Port of Waterford highlights the variety of opportunities to develop and promote the estuary.
The report, which is now available to view online at www.portofwaterford.com, offers an overview of the natural and cultural heritage of Waterford Estuary, outlining opportunities for the future sustainable development, promotion and preservation of this heritage that could benefit the estuary community.
Port of Waterford’s Heritage Committee Chairman, Joe Dreelan  said:

No tenders received for Templeshannon project


The regeneration strategy for Templeshannon in Enniscorthy will be dependent on a successful negotiated tender after the open tender process failed to attract any interest from consultant firms.
The multi-million euro project will be developed in three stages and the current tender process was with regard to a preliminary design for the area, which will also incorporate a new pedestrian footbridge over the Slaney.
However, at last week s meeting of Wexford County Council the members were told that no submissions were received for the strategy as a result of the open tender process.
In the wake of that meeting, Chief Executive Officer of Wexford County Council Tom Enright spoke about the issue and what it means for the project in the long term. ....

€131m budget gambles on availability of supports from government


Staff at Wexford County Council s Department of Finance had the unenviable task of presenting some kind of coherent draft budget plan for the coming year to elected members last week as the local authority attempts to navigate the choppy waters of Covid-19. In a lot of ways, the 2021 budget is a shot in the dark and gambles heavily on government supports being forthcoming.
This year s budget plans for expenditure of just over €131 million, an increase of €3.5m on the 2020 budget, while the predicted income stands at €89.2m, leaving an excess expenditure over income of €41.8m.
Back in March, the virus hit the country with a thud, costing millions out of council finances over a very short period. As a result, the budget for 2021, Head of Finance Annette O Neill says, is completely dependent on government supports being made available. ....
