The United States is the world's fourth-largest wheat exporter and problems are hitting output at a time when the world can ill afford to lose any more supplies of the staple grain.
India has also received requests for wheat from the United Nations' World Food Programme for the supply of the grain to countries such as Uganda and Ethiopia.
India’s wheat exports stood at an all-time high of 7 million tons, valued at USD 2.05 billion, in 2021-’22, with over 50 per cent being bought by neighbouring Bangladesh.
