She was born on November 25, 1927 in Lansing, Michigan to Leo and Adah Kallinger. Dorothy was raised in St. Joseph, Michigan and graduated from St. Joseph High School. In 1947 she graduated from Stephens College in Columbia Missouri. Dorothy met Robert Muske while she was working for the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department as a stenographer.
