The defendant is charged with unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, a Class X felony, and unlawful delivery of a look-alike substance, a Class 3 felony.
Daniel J. Shelby, 41, of Ellsworth, died of multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner's office said, and the suspect was taken to the McLean County jail.
An assistant state's attorney told the court the murder victim stated in text messages the day before his death he would have to "sleep with one eye opened."
