Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea make surprise exit
Photo: WINA CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – With Charlottesville’s Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee statues coming down at what seemed like record speed, City Council went into a special emergency meeting to strike while the iron was hot. Council approved setting aside $1 million for removal of the both the Confederate statues and the Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea statue on Wednesday. With the work scheduled for Saturday finishing well ahead of schedule, the contractor was able to squeeze in the removal of the third statue, as well. The special meeting began at noon.
