Organizers last spring estimated the series of events would cost $8 million to $10 million. They haven't given an update on how much they have raised beyond the city's $3 million contribution.
Emphasizing the significance of design and intellectual property (IP) creation, IT Secretary S Krishnan urged Indian electronics product designers to prioritize inclusivity, aesthetics, and user experience. Speaking at the '23rd India Design Summit and Awards,' he highlighted the added value design elements bring, especially in the electronics and digital domain.
Referring to the Apple manufacturing ecosystem in India, he said, "Today, we are aiming that about 20-25 per cent at least of Apple iPhones are made in India at some point or the other, and if you look at the value addition which takes place in India, it is probably currently about 12-15 per cent and hopefully will go up to 30-35 per cent in due course as more and more components get made," he said.
In a five-year plan, the World Design Organisation (WDO) along with Srishti Manipal Institute, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and Association of Designers in India (ADI) will design-think sustainability, safety, health, creativity to address mounting civic issues of the young metropolis.
