Lions drop regular season finale to Stephenville, 15-8, playoffs up next

The Brownwood Lions shaved a six-run deficit to one, but the Stephenville Yellow Jackets fired back with the final six runs of the game for a 15-8 victory in the District 6-4A baseball finale for both teams Monday at Howard Payne University’s Don Shepard Park.
District 6-4A champion Stephenville (8-8, 11-1) scored in every inning but one, including two runs in the sixth and fourth in the seventh after Brownwood (10-11, 6-6) had closed the gap to 9-8.
The Lions used five pitchers – Xadrian Mares, Hunter Day, Byron Foster, Atticus Porter and Gavin Brandstetter – who yielded 16 hits, issued seven walks, beaned three batters and hurled four wild pitches. Brownwood’s defense committed four errors as the Lions gave up just seven earned runs.

Lions walk off 4-3 district victory over Gatesville

After suffering a pair of one-run losses last week, and another in their first District 6-4A baseball meeting with the Gatesville Hornets, the Brownwood Lions were finally able to return the favor.
Kris Hobbs drove in all four runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lions picked up a crucial 4-3 victory over Gatesville in District 6-4A baseball action Tuesday night at Morris Southall Field.
“It’s good to get a win in a one-run game,” said Lions second-year head coach Brian Harris. “The last couple of games we battled really hard and competed pretty well in some spots, but I thought we did a really good job of doing that for a full seven innings tonight.”

In a game that featured 23 runs, 20 hits, 14 walks, 12 errors and 18 runners left on base, the Brownwood Lions emerged with a 13-10 victory over the Lampasas Badgers Tuesday night at Morris Southall Field to move to the top of the District 6-4A baseball standings.
“Starting out 2-0, you’re not supposed to complain about that but we do still have some work to do,” said Lions second-year head coach Brian Harris. “This was a good game to learn from. We had our ups and our downs and they made it a really close game there at the end, and there was a little pressure there.”

Lions collect third weekend victory, 7-4 over Lake View, in tournament finale

The Brownwood Lions finished with a 3-1 record at the Brown County Invitational, again rallying from an early deficit to knock off the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs, 7-4, in Saturday night’s tournament finale at Morris Southall Field.
“We won three ball games this weekend and we’re still not playing our best baseball,” said Lions head coach Brian Harris. “I can’t say enough about them – they’re competing, they’re helping each other, they’re playing the way we are asking them to play and they’re just getting better. The things that we mess up on, we’ll work on in practice this next week and hopefully we won’t make those mistakes again.”
