MAC to probe Chinese station over talk shows

The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) is to investigate whether Xiamen Star TV (廈門衛視) contravened regulations by setting up a studio in Taiwan and producing political talk shows, the agency said.
On two of the station’s political talk shows Across the Strait (兩岸直航) and Cross-Strait Cloud Living Room (兩岸雲客廳) Xiamen, China-based hosts discussed cross-strait issues with well-known Taiwanese political pundits Chang Yu-hua (張友驊), Nice Tse-hsun (鈕則勳) and Hsieh Han-tung (謝寒冰), who were filmed in a studio in Taiwan.
The council on Monday said its investigation would seek to determine whether the station’s staff in Taiwan were involved in the program.

In the four-minute video, the founder, identified as A-chia (阿嘉) from Hsinchu, sits in front of Siluo Bridge (西螺大橋) in Yunlin County ....

NCC rejects CTi TV second application

The National Communications Commission (NCC) yesterday rejected CTi TV’s application for its CTi Asia channel to be on Chunghwa Telecom’s multimedia-on-demand system, as it is planning to coproduce programs with Chinese television stations.
The ruling, which did not surprise industry observers, has shut down the network’s second attempt to reinstate its news programs on cable or other platforms in Taiwan.
Last year, the commission rejected the network’s proposal to broadcast news programs on the CTi Variety channel after CTi News’ license renewal application was rejected in 2020.
NCC Vice Chairman and spokesman Wong Po-tsung (翁柏宗) told a news conference in Taipei that CTi ....
