Divided Board of Supervisors weighs in on drug-treatment facility for felons Shares The Yolo County Board of Supervisors voted this week to support in principle legislation that would allow the county to create a secure drug treatment facility for felony offenders who would otherwise be incarcerated in jail or prison. The vote was narrow, with three supervisors in favor, one in opposition and one abstaining. AB 1542 was authored by Assemblyman Kevin McCarty, D-Sacramento, in partnership with Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig and Yolo County Supervisor Gary Sandy of Woodland. Sandy was joined by Supervisors Jim Provenza of Davis and Angel Barajas of Woodland in support of the bill, while Don Saylor of Davis opposed the motion and Oscar Villegas of West Sacramento abstained.
Yolo DA’s Citizens Academy goes virtual Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig recently announced that the annual District Attorney Citizens Academy will be held virtually this year. The academy is sponsored by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office in cooperation with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Yolo County Probation Department, and the UC Davis, Woodland, Winters and West Sacramento police departments. The Citizen’s Academy is an eight-week journey designed to involve diverse communities in participating in mutual learning about the criminal justice system. The goal is to educate the public and improve relationships and communication between the many different communities in Yolo County and the criminal justice system.
Audit finds state district attorney group misspent millions allocated for environment By Megan Cassidy The California District Attorneys Association, a statewide advocacy group for prosecutors, siphoned nearly $3 million that was supposed to be used for public-advocacy litigation and used it to fund training and lobbying, according to a recent audit of the group’s finances. The audit, performed by the San Francisco accounting firm Hemming Morse, found that the association had a practice of “borrowing” funds obtained from workplace and environmental settlements since 2004, “during periods when CDAA experienced cash flow shortfalls.” The agency repeatedly padded its general fund with money earmarked for specific purposes, the audit found.
