The Graham Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is preparing for one of its longstanding annual fundraisers, the Chalupa Luncheon. The luncheon will take place Thursday, April 25 on the Young County courthouse lawn from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In addition to the lunch and dessert offered, the auxiliary will host a bake sale and a raffle for various prizes donated by local businesses.
Restoring and providing a centralized home for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) services has been the goal of Dennis and Andy Heath since January. After connecting with The Arc of Wichita Falls, the two established a nonprofit and are fundraising to provide a location for the organization to offer and expand IDD services. Helen Farabee Centers recently closed its IDD Provider Services Division due to it no longer being financially sustainable. With its closure, many Young County IDD clients that utilized the Day Habilitation services were impacted.
After being indicted in January 2023 for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to a February 2022 shooting, Kamron Nail took a plea agreement at the beginning of April for 10 years deferred adjudication. Nail, 19, of Young County, was indicted Jan. 27, 2023 on the 2nd degree charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He accepted a plea agreement Friday, April 5 for 10 years deferred adjudication, forfeiture of the firearm used in the incident to Graham Police Department, a fine of $5,000 and $180 restitution.
A portion of Hwy. 16 between Graham and Loving will be closed for the filming of scenes in an upcoming television series called “Landman.” Location managers with Paramount Pictures provided the updated filming schedule at a Young County Commissioners Court meeting Monday, April 8. The company’s production crews will shut down Hwy. 16 between Turtle Hole Road and Oliver Lane from Thursday, April 25 through Tuesday, May 7.
Young County will be receiving financial assistance for the Young County Sheriff’s Office with a grant agreement from Senate Bill 22. At commissioners court Monday, April 8, Young County Judge Win Graham and Young County Sheriff Travis Babcock presented the plan they have come up with for using the grant money.
